I’ve never made it a priority to “write for the rankings” – I write for me. I write because I like to on topics that are of interest to me – else why bother as no one is paying me to do it. Ditto for the wonderful writers that volunteer their time and talent. But when someone comes up with a ranking, I do look – just in case I could be surprised.
Well, Doug Ross over at Doug Ross @ Journal (aka http://directorblue.blogspot.in) has such a list – a ranking based on Alexa listings of the top right of center blogsites with those 300 top ones with Alexa global (not just US standings) ranking from 196 for FoxNews.com at #1 to astuteblogger.BlogSpot.com with a ranking of 1664275.
And no, we were not listed. Shoulda though – for a state level blog in a very small state, our Alexa global ranking is 681,238. Our US ranking is higher: 243,676 when I looked us up, so we could have ended up on that list at #241 (see image). That’s with millions upon hundreds of millions in the blogosphere. I guess we punch, very well, above our weight class – thank you, Readers!
A couple of other things I found out:
- Bounce rate is 70.80%
- 24% of our traffic comes from search engines – to me, this is GREAT because it means that people actually WANT to be here on purpose and with forethought (versus “stumbling into the doorway”).
- And “Maggie Hassan” is one of the top search terms sending people to GraniteGrok (er, does this mean “mission accomplished“?)
