Don’t buy the Democratic accusations that it is the Republicans’ fault that there is no Surgeon General. Remember that Harry Reid changed the rules in the Senate so that the Democrats could push through any nominee they wanted. The reason Reid hasn’t brought Obama’s nominee up for a vote is because there are Democratic senators who don’t want to vote for him. So blame Obama for putting up a nominee even members of his own party don’t want to vote for.
Changed the rules? That was the “Nuke” that was used for packing the Court system to lower a nomination approval to a simple majority instead of what used to be the normal 60 votes. If the Senate Dems wanted him, they’d get him – they can do that all by themselves without any Repubs voting Yea. However, Dr. Vivek Murthy is one that believes that guns are a public health concern and a lot on the Right are angry that this would end up as stealth gun control instead of, once again, going through the legislative process (and an expansion of the Administrative State into important social areas).
So, bottom line – it ISN’T the Republicans holding up the nomination vote, it is the Dems. Why haven’t they voted to push it through? They are scared of the right people – the voters. But they can’t say that – so they blame the opposition. Typical – not being truthful.
