“We can’t let divisions between conservatives cause us to forfeit elections to big government.”
In the midterms “everything is at stake,” he [Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas)] added, and “arguments within the family” should be laid to rest to get the party past the finish line. “The appropriate time for it has passed, at least until after the general election,” the senator said, noting that once the GOP gets the majority the party can then have “robust discussion about what our priorities should be.”
Seriously?? You don’t know what you’re gonna do until you win?? Even just to say that before the election? And then they wonder we in the base keep having WTF thoughts? This is supposed to engender Trust? You want us to vote for you and you don’t know what you are going to do?? Is it only me that thinks this makes sense??
Winning is merely a precursor – it is what you do afterwards that is most important.
So according to Cornyn, we in the base are just supposed to “have faith”? It scares me (and dismays, disappoints, and disgusts me) that these so-called Smart People don’t already have definitive plans already in place based on Republican priorities. This worries me – Principles should already show what the Republican Priorities should be well before the election. Campaign on those Principles and Priorities – give your base an idea of WHY they should vote for you (other than the stale “Less Taxes! Less Government!” platitudes which remain, most of the time, just that – stale”) instead of “just beat the other guy”. Republicans have deliberately tried to not make waves – not a strong offense on what will be done. Heck, some are already walking back some of what they’ve said (e.g., Havenstein now backing off on getting rid of Obamacare’s Medicaid Expansion)
And yes, the NH State Senate Republicans have completely soured me on Trusting them – they didn’t “forfeit elections to big government”, they just went and did it all on their own for some inane reason that I have to understand (yes, “if we didn’t pass it, it would have been worse” is a definition of inane). Now, however, a lot of the base may retaliate against them. And they realize that they were had by Kelly Ayotte who hasn’t helped much with her current support of Amnesty (which she vociferously campaigned again).
