“in the First Amendment, the Founding Fathers gave the free press the protection is must have to fulfill its essential role in our democracy. The press was to serve the governed, not the governors. The Government’s power to censor the press was abolished so that the press would remain forever free to censure the Government. The press was protected so that it could bare the secrets of government and inform the people.”
– Supreme Court Justice Hugo Black
And yet, from this Conservative perch, we see a mainstream media ideologically wedded to the Left which does put them in the “bias bubble” where because they are all in it, they either cannot see that they are, or worse, don’t care. I watch them interview Conservatives, report on Republicans, and opine concerning those other than in that LeftSphere and it is remarkably different than when “one of their own” is on the seat in front of them. I think of David Gregory demeanor as he helps Progressives when they stumble on Meet The Press and Michael Kitch who can’t write about TEA Party folks without an ink-stained sneer. All we want is for them to do their job – hate them ALL and skewer them ALL equally in time and in intensity. But you don’t – and we tune out. You may win some of the battles in protecting your own but the proxy results, share prices, subscription rates and viewership, are showing that you are ignoring most of us – so we are ignoring you. We want you to serve ALL of us not in Government, we WANT you to succeed by going after the hard stories and asking the hard questions – and not just to those on the political side opposite you.
You ARE failing in your Constitutional mandate (even as you wrap yourselves in it) – you no longer serve the governed. Instead, you are turning into the courtiers supplicating yourselves before the Rulers.
