After voting 40 times to repeal Obamacare in the US House, why should I trust the DC Establish Republicans? Yeah, I get it – for the last 3 years I’ve listened to “we’re gonna repeal it!”. First couple of times, rah-rah!…and then snoresville. There comes a time when credulity just breaks down from sheer repetition of doing the same thing without a result. Even if all of the TEA Party AND Establishment Senate candidates had won their Senate races, the Senate Repubs still would not have had a filibuster proof margin – and no where enough votes to override a veto. The Framers gave the US House the ultimate last resort on paying for the functioning of the government – even to the point of not funding “settled law” (and yes, go back to Viet Nam history). Progressives and Big Governmentalists were all agog – “what do you mean you wouldn’t fund the Federal Government!!”. Well, when the Senate’s Reid decided not to pass a “regular order” budget for 4 years and decided to go with indecipherable Continuing Resolutions (that hardly let us Citizens know what we were spending where) instead, why not?
Thus, smoke and mirrors, pure political theater – vaporvotes. As in vaporware. As in Flash!, no substance. The ONLY chance to stop Obamacare was to use the power of the purse – defund it. They knew it. Harry Reid knew it. And Obama knew it (as his sycophants in the MSM). Constitutionally (Article I, section 7, clause 1; Article 1 Section 7 Clause 9), the US House has the authority to fund what it wants. Or not. Period. And the Republicans got scared of:
- Being called bad names
- Not being re-elected.
Oh, we heard about “Can’t do this – Dems will keep the Senate and take the House”. Possibly. Possibly not – probably not, IMHO. But you don’t go into a fight saying “We’ll quit 1/2 way through” – never bothering to go hard enough to get the Brass Ring. And now, from CNSNews, we see that they are just gonna do it all again with the same excuse (emphasis mine, reformatted):

Boehner said, “We want to repeal Obamacare and replace it with patient-centered healthcare.”. At the press conference, Boehner was joined by House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.), House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), Conference Chairman Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash), Conference Vice Chairman Rep. Lynn Jenkins (R-Kan.) and Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.), who were there to speak to reporters about Obamacare and its effect on their constituents.
“It’s time to delay this,” Boehner said. “It’s time to fix this, before it gets any worse.” In their 15 minutes of prepared remarks, the GOP leaders said they plan to “delay” Obamacare six times. The only time the word “repeal” was used was in response to CNSNews.com’s question.
“It’s time to fix this“. There is no “fixing” this; you had the chance to use the silver spike and kill it. Dead. Make the Liberty sucking nightmare dissolve like all CGI ghouls do. Nope, back to the same old. And Beohner gets caught:
Earlier in the press conference a reporter asked Boehner, “You said, ‘it’s time to fix this before the problems get worse.’ That isn’t ‘repeal and replace.’ Are you suggesting now that Republicans would like to join in with some Democrats to change the law?”
“There is no way to fix this monstrosity,” Boehner said. “Remember – let’s step back. We said this three-and-a-half years ago when this law was being debated and everyone wanted to argue with us. This is government-run healthcare because virtually every policy that is sold has to be approved by the government.” “That’s why you’ve got 1.5 million Americans that have already got these notices that they’re going to lose their health coverage because it doesn’t meet the minimum standard,” said Boehner. “Listen, the idea that the federal government is going to supply the health insurance for every American, and write all the rules, defies any – any – sense from my standpoint.”
I dryly note that Boehner did not answer the question. To me, that is tacit acknowledgement that, once again, the DC Republicans have decided to become, not the hard charging, Liberty defending, Freedom the Jr. partners of the Ruling Political Class.
