HB-1412 “WARNING! Massachusetts Border 500 FEET”

Want to send a message about the differences between New Hampshire and Massachusetts?  Make people ask why we might want to pass a house bill that would allow the placement of “Warning” signs 500 feet before the border on every road leading from New Hampshire into Massachusetts.  That is what HB 1412 would do.

Commissioner of Transportation to Establish Program. The commissioner of the department of transportation:

I. Shall establish a sponsor-a-sign program by directly involving citizens, groups, associations, and the business community in the sponsorship of each sign required by this subdivision. No public money shall be used to pay for such signs.

II. May recognize a citizen, group, association, or business that sponsors a sign by erecting a suitable recognition sign meeting the following criteria:

Are you transporting liquor, not wearing a seatbelt, any fireworks, oh, and don’t forget your right to carry a gun in New Hampshire.  You could be 500 feet from a felony.  (More reasons? Feel free to share them.)

And hey, why go there in the first place?  The roads are lousy, the drivers are insane, and you can feel the cold dark hand of government smothering the cradle of liberty.  Too much?

Take away: Would Governor Lynch ever sign this?
