OK, a bunch of things tonite have taken me away from blogging – especially on this bill. I have a LOT of concerns with what the House has passed but while there may be some good stuff there, I have not come to the conclusion that this was a good bill. In fact, my gut is telling me that this may turn out as a cross between the last Continuing Resolution (billions of cuts that faded to mere millions upon checking the real stuff inside) and Obamacare ("We have to pass it to see what is in it"). And right now, after reading a bunch of folks who have actually had the time to read the 74 pages of the bill, there are a lot of reservations going around (devolving to, nicely put, a pig in a poke).
But that will have to wait until I can get some uninterrupted time to cogitate and lay out all of what I think. Adding $2.4 Trillion to the debt is NOT a great thing – especially as it lets Obama off the campaign hook for the issue. The one thing that can now be said, however, is that the TEA Party movement outsmarted, outtalked, and out performed the smartest Progressive people in the room. The TEA Party, nothing but a rag tag group of ordinary people who rose together from a sense that things were running off the rails in the Country, used that outrage to get the right folks in place to make a difference in the history of this nation (sorta like what happened here in NH!). They changed the focus of the politics in DC – from what is Govt gonna spend on now to one of what is gonna get cut.
Sure, the Democrats / Liberals / Progressives called for a new tone of civility during the time of the Gabby Gifford shooting but have showed a level hypocrisy since not seen ever (or if so, not in a long time) in calling the TEA Party extremists, baby killers, hostage takers, and now, terrorists – the works. Add in racists and homophobes and that pretty much means that they don’t like us much.
Yet, they seem to forget that it was the American people put the TEA Party politicians into power – nice to see the smear; that will set well at election time. And that they answer to the people. But you know what the bestest thing to say at this time (caveat: see above: what’s in it?)?
To paraphrase The One’s statement upon taking office and on the state of discussing Obamacare:
We Won
It just might be now that the direction has changed (I saw one wag say it isn’t that the ship is now going in the other direction, but at least it is now turned in the Right direction).
