Over at Big Hollywood, it is Ben Shapiro /PrimeTime Propaganda.
And I’m not surprised. I have pretty much stopped watching the big networks’ offerings. After all, as a Conservative middle aged, white, Evangelical male who believes in traditional values, has never cheated on his wife for 30 years, don’t drink, don’t carouse, or do drugs, I’m normal (the protestations of my kids, and sometimes TMEW, aside).
Essentially – normal. But, according to Hollywood, I and my values are deserving to be a pin cushion, to be made a mockery, to be disparaged; pretty much a big target. And they have finally been out, a la James O’Keefe style, by Ben Shapiro. We’ve been lied to for decades in saying "oh, we only REFLECT reality" and have denied any attempts to change it. The problem is that most folks I know DON’T live the stories, and especially the characters, that are portrayed on TV as being normal. And if there is a spot to be negative, it is my values, my lifestyle, that is picked on. No, Muslim terrorists are not the problem – those white corporate types are. No, rappers preaching hatred, racism, and misogyny are not the problem but those of us who are in favor of traditional marriage, honest character, right and wrong, are the despicable ones to be help up and ridiculed.
And Ben catches them all in their own hubris, as they finally start to let the cat out of the back to one they THOUGHT was one of them. Grok friend and proprietor of RightWingNews, John Hawkins has an interview with Ben here.
In the mean time, take a lesson:
My take on this is summed up in this question: is culture really MUCH better overall now after several decades of Liberal inculcation?
No.
From Ben’s
Townhall column:
Hollywood matters.
It matters because we watch Hollywood product day in and day out. Your children spend six or seven hours at school, and couple of hours with their friends, and a couple of hours with you. They spend a full three hours with the television.
You get home from work, kick off your shoes, and plop down in front of the TV, hoping simply to chill out. Instead, you get unmitigated liberalism pouring out of your TV. But you continue to watch because it’s great. It’s fun, thrilling, dramatic, or hilarious. We think it has no impact on us.
But it does. Television made Barack Obama. Television it supported bigger and bigger government, from Welfare to health care; pushed abortion-on-demand and the radical gay agenda into the mainstream; it stumped against war and for meaningless buzzwords like diversity and dangerous buzzwords like multiculturalism. Television has done more to change the politics of our nation than simple politics has.
Television has manipulated us. And those who create television have done it purposefully, and elegantly. They have weeded out conservatives in the industry wholesale. They have worked hand-in-glove with liberals in government to forward the leftist agenda. They have turned pure entertainment into a vehicle for propaganda.
Once again, we see the target – kids. People complain that politics is everywhere and in everything. Well, you can blame the Progressives for the push – in the “objective” newsrooms, in the media, and certainly in the classroom. Only way to take back the country is to take back these institutions.
