Really – that’s what one lady, Mary Hutchins, is using for rhetoric for NH State Senator Jim Forsythe (my Senator) merely for a difference of opinion – he has sponsored an amendment to a bill allowing 55mph in the largest part of the Big Lake. For this, they want him to resign? It is my opinion that most of these folks won’t be happy unless a duplication of the "Golden Pond" regs in place – if they had their way, nothing more powerful than a one-cylinder putt-putt outboard on a two person skiff would be allowed.

There are been numerous Letters from the "No Fun Faster than 45 on Winnipesaukee" crowd, all calling on our NH State Senator, Jim Forsythe, to resign just because he disagrees with them on the issue of speed limits on the Big Lake. Further, they believe that everyone else sides with them on this. When one considers ALL the far more important issues NH faces, is frothing on the keyboard simply for disagreeing over about a 10 mph difference in speed really grounds for a recall? Hardly, and I do believe that crowd has "jumped the shark" with Mary Hutchins’ remark of "Will the entire Broads area be considered a terror zone?". Really, a terror zone? In the words of Madam Pelosi: "Are you serious"? Frankly, the State has far more important issues to confront – most important one, by some estimates, up to a $Billion deficit. Priorities, people.
Jim, keep doing what you’re doing – from this constituent’s viewpoint, flank speed ahead as I see that my political agenda, mostly, seems to be yours – exactly what I hoped for when I supported your run and voted for you: cut the spending drastically, make govt smaller and less intrusive, and continue to limit the reach of govt that returns the real power back to the local level and to citizens where it rightly belongs (and not in Concord where the Democrats took it).

District 4 State Senator James Forsythe truly disappointed his constituents. He said the majority of his constituents clearly asked him to vote to keep the speed limits on Lake Winnipesaukee as they are with no changes ¿ but he voted for a bill to change the current law of 45/30 to increase speeds to 55 mph in "the Broads" only. Senator Forsythe represents 3 towns that are on Lake Winnipesaukee, Laconia, Gilford and Alton. He was elected by the citizens of District 4 to represent them ¿ not his personal political agendas.
Will the entire Broads area be considered a terror zone? Will the off-shore performance boats become possessive and try to keep all the rest of us away to avoid what has generously changed the area of the Broads of over 30% of the Lake?
I had a neighbor in a big, high performance off shore boat that was going from Wolfeboro to Laconia and saw someone canoeing between Welsh Isle. and the Broads. He raced directly towards them, they waved their paddles wildly for fear of being run over, only to have him to stop close by to yell at them to "stay out of his area" when they should be within "their space of 150 ft of the land. He could have politely steered away from them for safety and sanity reasons, but he chose the aggressive approach. He truly thought he was in the right! Will this become worse now a Bill to change the current law of 45/30 and allows faster boating in The Broads only … which some might interpret that as "theirs." Is he aware of the amount of small boat traffic that needs to go through the Broads, the hub of the Lake? Does he feel the go fast boaters should make them cancel sail boat racing in the best sailing area on the Lake? Is there more than 1 boat in Marine Patrol that can go over 55 mph?
Senator Forsythe was wrong to make such an important vote for the Lakes Region to be against his constituents and for his own political gain and support. I will certainly remember this at the next election.
