There’s an interesting essay by Stephen Balch suggesting that Western Civilization (not to mention American civilization) may be a "bubble"…which is about to burst. This is caused, at least in part by the loss of the values which originally enabled our civilization to take root and thrive.
Central among those values was the lack of institutionalized envy backed by force. What do you think and feel when you see a wealthy fellow enjoying the fruits of their success and good fortune? Republicans generally say "Someday I’ll have that too!" Democrats tend to respond with envy and hostility: "Someday I’ll take that away from him!" (usually accompanied by one self-justifying reason or another).
As Prof. Walter Williams has written "People have always wanted to live at the expense of others. That’s human nature. But there was a time when it wasn’t acceptable….We’ve become a nation of thieves," a society with a near-majority that insists on living at the expense of others.
But such ideas and atttitudes—driven as they are by resentment, hatred, and envy—are, well…UnAmerican. They also form the philosophical foundation of the Democratic Party.
So…should registered members of the Democratic Party be allowed to vote? I mean, if Democrats base their appeal for votes on hatred, envy, and resentment of others, and since those attitudes are harmful and UnAmerican, why let such people vote? (Just asking!)
