First of all, take a look at THIS ARTICLE about the Northern Pass Canadian hydroelectric energy project. It would provide New Hampshire and future generations with a clean, stable, renewable, cheap, ongoing energy supply.
So naturally lots of people oppose it. Republican Ray Burton—a member of the Grafton County Commission—is even seeking the help of President Obama to block the energy project. Republican State Senator Jeanie Forrester also opposes it.
Jeanie Forrester? GraniteGrok got snookered! Here’s why….
Jeanie Forrester—who we strongly endorsed for election last year—is foolishly going along with the "Perpetual No" crowd. These are people who tend to oppose change, no matter how beneficial it might be for society as a whole. Energy is the lifeblood of a modern economy. Today’s leadership in the state legislature is digging us out of the Democrats’ debt-hole, and moving to lay the foundation for a modern economy in New Hampshire.
The Perpetual No chorus, in the meantime, is trying to block energy progress.
Look, I LIKE power lines, just like I LIKE tall buildings, hydroelectric dams, offshore drilling platforms, cell phone towers, and power plants. All are designed and built to benefit all of us. You know, us human beings? Remember the Alaskan pipeline uproar in the early 1970’s? It would "kill the caribou," they said. Rational people then knew better. It turns out now that the caribou have MULTIPLIED since then. They LOVE the pipeline, it keeps them warm, they like to hang around it with their youngsters. Similarly, offshore drilling platforms, especially in the Gulf of Mexico, act as new marine habitats, attracting fish and other aquatic life. Drilling platforms have been found to be GOOD for the marine ecology. (The naysayers always reply that the rare oil spill "will end all life." Right. Just like the Alaskan oil pipeline "destroyed the caribou." The biggest oil spill in history was last year in the Gulf of Mexico. Guess what? There’s been no long-term damage, and the Gulf is back to normal after just a few months.)
So in New Hampshire we are now seeing foolish opposition to progress yet again. I swear. The Perpetual No gang tends to oppose ALL change, but in opposing power lines and other trappings of advanced civilization, they endanger our state economy and our future. New Hampshire’s new businesses of the future will create jobs for everyone. But those businesses will need a stable, long-term energy supply. But the Perpetual No people seeks to block it. Heck, put aside the fact that in doing so, they are opposing jobs and a growing state economy. Just think about this: How many people will DIE in future winters because these people opposed a secure, stable, reliable power supply today?
