Steve wrote a post concerning that overwrought idea by Manchester Democrat (a few bits short of a parity check, in my estimation) to require that parents sign permission slips to go on a field trip to the NH Statehouse because of the rule change that now allow for firearms to be carried (open or concealed).
Well, I think I found Farley’s dunderheaded cousin in Kentucky!
State Rep. Mary Lou Marzian said she will introduce legislation that would require parents to sign papers acknowledging they understand that people are allowed to carry guns in the Frankfort building.
"You have to sign permission slips for everything else. Why not this?" Marzian said in an interview. "Many parents don’t realize they could be exposing their children to guns in a very volatile political setting."
…"These people don’t care who they shoot at," Marzian said. "And when you have rhetoric like Sarah Palin with cross hairs, you have people saying ‘liberals should be killed’ or ‘conservatives should be killed,’ I just think people should be informed."
Guns are not prohibited anywhere on the Capitol campus as long as they are carried openly. Concealed weapons – unless carried by a legislator – are prohibited in the House and Senate chambers and in legislative committee meetings.
Marzian said she also plans to file legislation that would ban weapons in the galleries and the Capitol Annex, which houses legislative offices and meeting rooms.
