Simply purveyors of information, as in "just the facts"? No – in listening to the different news outlets and reading the news sites, it is clear that this is just the Grassy Knoll all over again. Then, as now, the outrage was to blame conservatives for formenting the "atmosphere". At that time and period, it was hard to fight back for scurrilous charges.
As Twisted Sister sang:

And we are not. And as we at the ‘Grok have written, the Left has made it far too easy for us to point out their own hypocrisy (and Really Bad Memories) – the Internet doesn’t forget. Frankly, there are too many people making up the collective (but distributed) memory bank and dot-connection for them to get away with a white-washing? As Ann Althouse (via Instapundit) notes:
