I just can’t see wasting an hour or more of my time listening to this President recite a litany of statements so utterly divorced from reality as to be fairly characterized as outright B.S. The nation stands on the precipice of financial ruination, and our President is talking about all the wonderful things the federal government is going to spend more money on, while cautioning that nothing will be cut from the intergenerational Ponzi scheme known as "social security."

As George Will said last week, state-of-the-union speeches have become "this panorama in which in an interminable speech [by] every president, regardless of party — tries to stroke every erogenous zone in the electorate and it becomes a political pep rally….If it’s going to be a pep rally with the president’s supporters of whatever party standing up and braying approval, and histrionic pouting on the part of the other, then it’s no place for the judiciary, no place for the uniformed military, and no place for non-adolescent legislators."

I’m through. I can’t listen to another State-of-the-Union address by this President. And George W. Bush was just as bad. I’ll wait and hope for a new President in 2013. One who’s connected with and serious about a rather obvious reality that is staring us in the face.
