Rebuttal to a Letter to the Editor – civil society?

by Skip

In one of the local papers was this Letter to the Editor:

 Editor, The Citizen:

Just another thought on current events both locally and nationally: Why is gun ownership necessary to live in a civilized society?

Dianna Babcock
Sandwich

My response was this:

I will answer Ms. Babcock’s question of 1/22: Why is gun ownership necessary to live in a civilized society?

Because there are still those that are more than willing to take, by force, that which is not theirs. Their selfish actions show that our society is not as civilized as you might believe.

Only when society reaches that pinnacle when no one, be they thieves or politicians (or do I repeat myself?),  disregards another’s Right to Private Property and Life and hold those Rights sacrosanct, can we then bestow upon ourselves the title of "civilized".
