OK, it’s only the first week but like we’ve said, we gonna watch our Federal politicians like hawks. Why? Well, partly because it amuses us, but the more serious reason is this:
We can no longer afford to put our Government on auto-pilot
financially or otherwise. We are currently reaping the horror of having done so for decades. Thankfully, Americans who still believe that the Constitution, and the values and principles it enumerates, still have a role to play in our political life. TEA Party, 9/12 Project, other Liberty and Freedom groups all formed a Grand Coalition to do what William Buckley said conservatives should do: stand athwart the gunwales of history and say "STOP!".
Sure, Progressives are always pooh-poohing that by saying we have to go forward and make progress. Question is, progress towards what? THAT they never really want to say outright (although we are seeing the results as Obama tries to turn America from a Republic based on democracy to an Administrative State run by self-appointed experts overseeing how we would live our lives.
Frank Guinta ran on a platform of smaller, limited Government – he voted to reduce Congress’s expense to the taxpayers:
“When you have a $14 trillion federal debt, slicing off $32 million is just a drop in the bucket,” Guinta said. “But it is a start, and it sends an important signal. If Congress is serious about bringing spending under control, we had to start here. I’m eager to cut my own office budget to demonstrate that we’re ready to ‘walk the walk, not talk the talk’. This isn’t the end of the fight to restore fiscal sanity to Washington; it’s the opening shot.”
And don’t forget, there is Frank’s Fifty to dive into. I also point out there there were 13 NO votes – House Representatives that felt that their need for your money is greater than your’s. Or putting it another way – they have no problem in continuing to borrow the money from China for their own benefit – and stick you with the interest payments. Of no surprise at all, they are all Democrats.
And voted to reduce one of the most expense, Liberty reducing things ever passed by Congress and signed into Law: Obamacare. He campaigned on it; he voted his promise. Thus, it also gave me great pleasure to watch my new Congressman, Frank Guinta, participate in the Reading of the Constitution from the well of the House:
