I didn’t know that Nepotism was a part of the Platform…

I have one thing to say – with the following news, and with other Movement Conservative names dropping out, it is time to say it:

Draft Jennifer Horn for NH GOP Chair

Haven’t paid the paywall price, but some of what Pindell has up is free for us poor eyeballs (emphasis mine):

James Sununu, a political and business consultant, is seriously considering a run for New Hampshire Republican Party Chair if his father John H. Sununu officially declines to seek another term, WMURPoliticalScoop.com has learned.

You know, way back when, I made no points with the Sununu clan when I pointed out that Shaheen was shaping the political battlefield as Son #1 did nothing for a campaign. Did that post spur him into finally turning on spigot in keeping his Senatorial seat?  Who knows?  Was his elongated silence as Shaheen clobbered him for a couple of months a factor in the race?  Most likely.  My post?  Hardly….other than it got picked up, at the time, by a couple of DC based publications.

Son #2 is now an Executive Councilor – congratulations (really!).  Serve well.

But this is a bit much. First Juliana Bergeron’s name was floated out as being "The Pick".  Now, Son #3’s name?  Another handpicked name for successor?  Let’s be fair – Gov. Sununu has done a lot of good work the last two years cleaning up the mess that the previous Chair left (fled?).  And the ‘Grok thanks him for it – with many thanks and heartily given.  But also "let’s be clear, here";…

…there were a ton of grassroots folks, almost all Republicans, that helped mightily this last election cycle to put that wind into the Chair’s successful sails. I’m not entirely convinced that the grassroots candidates were as well treated and squired around as compared to those that could be described a bit more "Establishment".

ANY appearance of Nepotism, as this is seemingly looking like, is a slap at those who put their boots on the ground and made it happen this cycle.

Right now, I am looking at the previous past as being two of the legs of the NH GOP’s version of the Triple Crown:

  • Nov. 2 the first leg – the essential (and effective) wipe out of the Progressive Democrats from the political scene. Credit TEA Party / 9-12ers / Constitutional / throw the bums out crowd for this success.
  • Today was the second leg – a grassroots successful campaign for an "outside the Establishment" Speaker of the House – Bill O’Brien and his new leadership team.
  • Third leg – NH GOP Chair.

Should Gov. Sununu effectively appoint his successor – and have it apparently be yet another Sununu?  I think not.

If anything, this year’s cycle proves one thing and one singular lesson – Americans, when pushed too far, will react. And will react in force and in quantity.  In this case, the Law of Unintended Consequences will be in force if the Establishment believes that this is one way to set up a "power dike" and slow down the populist march of those wishing to return this Country back to the original values of the Constitution rather than "politics as usual".  This battle has been not the Old vs New (as James Pindell finally agrees with both Jeff Chidester and I), but the Establishment Republicans vs the Conservative movement members who happen to see the Republicans as being the better fit – thus far.

All this said?  I stick with my original statement at the top of this post:

Draft Jennifer Horn for NH GOP Chair

I can’t be sure, but I’m betting that there might be a surprising number of folks favorably expressing themselves concerning that sentence, as opposed to:

James Sununu, a political and business consultant, is seriously considering a run for New Hampshire Republican Party Chair if his father John H. Sununu officially declines to seek another term,
