John Boehner could be taking his first steps towards inciting a serious 3rd party movement in America, by ignoring (or side-stepping) calls for a Congressional pay cut; something he will have the power and influence to make happen, as the new Speaker of the US House.
He may also be making a potentially serious mistake by shooing-away Michelle Bachmann, Tea Party Caucus founder, as she bids for a Republican House leadership position. Her popularity is much higher than his is, and she has a talent for making noise, as a true Conservative activist should.
The current disapproval rating for Congress is languishing at about 73% and, from the looks of it so far, Boehner doesn’t seem to want, or know how, to make that go down.
Let this be one of the first of many criticisms of Republicans in Washington, in the wake of the tsunami of November 2010.
I don’t trust Boehner, who was at the ground-level of the semi-successful 1994 "Contract with America". He’s been around for a long time, and would have become a victim, long ago, of the term limits I so desperately would like to see. I get a same-old-politics-as-usual feeling from him, and will be watching carefully, to chart the direction of this rhetoric, and if it sticks or not.
If you care to send him a note with some of your thoughts, here’s the address. Mr. Boehner needs to remember that WE THE PEOPLE are responsible for the massive backlash against Liberals and Progressives, and that the victory he experienced last week can be taken away just as aggressively as it was handed to him.
The clock is ticking, Congressman, and trust us; you don’t want us to be angry with you.
