Guest post by Tom Tomson, a NH based taxpayer rights defender!
On November 2nd, Election Day, we will have a clear choice as to which road to take at this critical time in our state’s history.
The question is, do we want to take the same old road that Governor Lynch and the majority controlled Democrats have led us down for the last six years, which are higher taxes and fees, added regulations, more spending of your hard earned money, while continuing to increase the size of government and ignoring our New Hampshire constitution? Or do we want to consider a new road that will lead us in a new direction, and put a halt to the out of control spending, reduce taxes and fees, stop the insane regulations that are killing our small businesses and run a leaner more efficient state government, while upholding and living by our New Hampshire Constitution.
If you are like me and thousands of other NH voters you are upset at the debt we are incurring and leaving to our children and grandchildren, which is unbelievable and certainly unsustainable both in Concord and Washington, DC. But today I will focus my thoughts on NH and leave Washington, DC for another time.
Because of the uncontrollable spending under the Lynch Administration, (24% increase in the last two budget cycles), we are now facing a huge…
…deficit in the upcoming budget of between $600 and $900 million dollars. Some of you may be saying to yourself, how could this be? When just last week Governor Lynch reported the state had a $70 million surplus. Don’t be fooled once again by the Lynch administration’s funny money accounting, better known to the average taxpayer as fiscal political spinning. Please do your homework on this important matter and let me suggest that you look up and read a recent article that appeared in the Union Leader on October 6, 2010 titled “Accounting gimmicks can’t hide state’s fiscal disaster” by Charles Arlinghous, a direct link is here.
Charles Arlinghous has written about the state finances, taxes and fiscal matters for years and he knows the ins and outs of our state’s fiscal matters better than most and his article lays out in a clear, concise manner what the facts are; what has happened and what is about to happen if we continue down the road Governor Lynch is leading us. My personal prediction is; if Governor Lynch and the Democrats are re-elected on Nov. 2nd, you will see either a sales or income tax, or both, within the next two years no matter what John Lynch promises. Remember, Governor Lynch already broke his promise to our small businesses when he signed into law the Limited Liability Company (LLC) 5% income tax.
On top of the out of control spending and ballooning budget deficit, we have seen a total of 84 new taxes and or increases in current taxes and fees (have you registered your Vehicle lately). In 2009, in the deepest recession many of us have witnessed in our lifetime we saw our small businesses, struggling to survive. What did the Democrats led by Governor Lynch do to help? They proposed and passed a 5% income tax on LLC’s. This was done with no public hearings when it was signed into law (July 2009) by Governor Lynch, but to add insult to injury, Governor Lynch and the Democrats made it retroactive 6 months earlier (Jan. 1, 2009). It is unconstitutional to collect taxes retroactively. Because there was such an outcry by small businesses across New Hampshire (42,000+ LLC’s in our state) Concord realized that the best thing to do was repeal this job killing tax on our small businesses that are the backbone of our economy. Now Governor Lynch and the Democrats are touting how they sponsored and passed legislation to repeal the LLC 5% income tax on small businesses. Just remember, they were for it before they were against it, that’s know as Flip-Flopping and Governor Lynch and the Democrats have been doing a lot of that. Remember the Civil Union that Governor Lynch signed into law and said he would go no further. Well what did Governor Lynch and the Democrats then do, they passed and he gladly signed into law the new Gay Marriage bill and now he and many Democrats are being rewarded by raising thousands of dollars from gay groups outside of New Hampshire for their campaigns.
Governor Lynch and the majority of Democrats continue to refuse to sign the anti-tax “pledge” which I and the Americans for Prosperity (AFP), New Hampshire Chapter put together. Why? It’s very simple; they don’t want to be held accountable by you the taxpayer. You can go to the following website http://www.americansforprosperity.org/071910-afp-new-hampshire-anti-tax-pledge-signers to learn who signed our pledge, also you can look at our “Pledge”, be sure to check it out before Nov. 2nd.
November 2nd, will be the most important vote of my life. Our state and our way of life is in jeopardy and this election will be a defining moment in our history. It is up to us “We the People” to take back our state. Our best hope to do so is to vote straight Republican. I will do so and I will hold them accountable. Please join me on Nov. 2nd and VOTE to protect the future of our great state and preserve the “New Hampshire Advantage”.
