Dave Scott was a State Representative during the 2002-2003 period when Gene Chandler was last the Speaker of the House. Scott, the holder of an MBA from Harvard University, was also a crusading member of the Dover city council in uncovering local government corruption. He now sends the following thoughts about his experience in the State House and his support of Bill O’Brien for Speaker of the House:
"I agree completely on the importance of having Bill Obrien as Speaker. Gene Chandler is a pleasant fellow and I like him…but [in 2002] I did not think he used good judgment in his appointments to the various committees. Some of his appointments were RINO’s ["Republicans In Name Only"] or worse.
"Chandler also appointed two RINO Republicans to the Education Committee, one of which was a superintendent of a school in another town….For the Municipal Committee he appointed Betsy Patten, who I had the impression was in the back pocket of the local government group, pushing an Anti-Republican agenda.
"I agree that O’Brien would be the best choice for Speaker. Please let me know what I can do to help promote him."
