Professor Arthur Brooks started out as a liberal teaching at Syracuse University – and started to change his views when his data that formed the core of his book ""Who Really Cares-The Surprising Truth About Compassionate Conservatism"" showed that the liberal mantra of "we care for the poor – conservatives are the cold hearted ones!" turned out to have flaws and hidden problems (normally taken as "conventional wisdom") whose results hindered rather than helped.
