The Return of Nullification…and not a moment too soon

On November 7, 2009 the Republican Liberty Caucus of New Hampshire (RLCNH) hosted Tom Woods, author of "Meltdown: A Free-Market Look at Why the Stock Market Collapsed, the Economy Tanked, and Government Bailouts Will Make Things Worse." The RLCNH Forum was a smash hit. I personally bought two copies of the book.

Now Woods is back. His most recent book, released on June 28, 2010, is "Nullification: How to Resist Federal Tyranny in the 21st Century." Like I said, not a moment too soon. It is generally believed that in the past the doctrine of nullification was used only by southern states to justify and support slavery. That is false, as Woods explains. The fact is that nullification was used more often by the northern states than by the southern states, and that the doctrine was used more often to resist the institution of slavery than to support it. Today, of course, the doctrine of nullification is needed in order to resist repression and denial of rights by the federal government aimed at all of us, in the north, south, and west equally. I’ve already ordered the book. I fear we need the knowledge it imparts—and the resolve to use that knowledge—now more than ever in our lifetimes.
