Don’t Card Me Bro!

In an effort to stop age discrimination bars, restaurants, and retailers will no longer be able to ask people to show proof of age when buying alcohol, and signs saying we proof up to age 40 will have to be removed.  This stems from repeated complaints that people who appear to be old enough are being harassed by merchants to prove they have a right to be there, and a legitimate cause for utilizing their services.  Profiling, they claim, is causing them inconvenience and embarrassment, and that their personal privacy and civil rights are being violated because of their appearance.

“We think it’s wrong to give them the authority to stop us and make us provide some proof, just because of how we look.”

Additional complaints are expected to be filed about the way in which law enforcement issues APB’s and other communications about the descriptions of persons suspected of illegal activities as well as what will be acceptable to request during routine traffic stops.  “There has been a gross mischaracterization in the law enforcement community where suspects are identified by height, weight, race, sex, and even what they were wearing.  Can you imagine the indignity of being stopped and questioned just because you bought the same hooded sweat shirt from The Gap as someone suspected of a crime.  That’s profiling.  It’s just wrong.”

This is all part of an effort by so-called civil rights groups to reduce or eliminate what amounts to literally hundreds, perhaps thousands of years of profiling by racist, ageist, sexist, bigots of all shapes and sizes.

In response to these latest calls for change, President Obama will be holding a press conference later today in which he will apologizing to everyone for everything.  A bill offering reparations is already in committee, and Speaker Pelosi expects passage by lunchtime, even if she has to deem it passed.
