Listening to the radio yesterday, I heard a statistic noting that, of the world’s one billion Muslims, an estimated two hundred million of them subscribe to the radical Islamic strain. That’s no small number whether looked at in total, or as a percentage. The reason it’s problematic is what this large group believes in and what they’re willing to do to attain their goals.
In case you’ve forgotten, let’s revisit the words of radical Islam’s de-facto leader, Osama bin Laden, who pretty much captures the mindset of this virulent strain of the Muslim religion in his August 23rd 1996 “Declaration of War Against the Americans Occupying the Land of the Two Holy Places” writing,
“the sons of the land of the two Holy Places feel and strongly believe that fighting (Jihad) against the Kuffar in every part of the world, is absolutely essential…”
The Wikipedia tells us that “Kuffar” is the plural version of an Arabic word meaning "rejecter" or "ingrate,” and,
“In the Islamic doctrinal sense, the term refers to a person who does not recognize God (Allah) or the prophethood of Muhammad (i.e., any non-Muslim) or who hides, denies, or covers the "truth." Basically, you, me, and most everybody we all know are “the Kuffar.” For Osama bin Laden and his fellow travelers, fighting Jihad against us is “essential.”
The al Qaeda leader spoke of young Muslims engaging in this Jihad against us, noting that,
“Our youths believe in paradise after death… These youths believe in what has been told by Allah and His about the greatness of the reward for the Mujahideen and Martyrs; Allah, the most exalted said: and -so far- those who are slain in the way of Allah, He will by no means allow their deeds to perish. He will guide them and improve their condition and cause them to enter the garden –paradise… Those youths know that their rewards in fighting you, the USA, is double than their rewards in fighting some one else not from the people of the book. They have no intention except to enter paradise by killing you.”
And lest we try to reason with them, bin Laden makes it perfectly clear- there is nothing to be negotiated:
“Those youths will not ask you for explanations, they will tell you singing there is nothing between us need to be explained, there is only killing and neck smiting.”
Why, even if the United States were to bend over backwards and accommodate say, for example, a Muslim member of its own armed forces, and look the other way from suspicious signs and behavior, choosing to promote him despite a multitude of reasons NOT to, it would still not be enough. After all, there would be nothing that “need be explained.” And so it was for Maj. Nidal M. Hasan. Despite having been given every benefit of the doubt by a politically-correct military that should have instead at the very least drummed him out of service, in the end, this radicalized Islamic warrior had no other intention “except to enter paradise by killing…”
“But Doug, you called him an Islamic warrior. Surely he was just troubled- you know, mentally ill…”
No, he WAS in fact, an Islamic warrior, and openly admitted it. The day before he embarked on Jihad at Ft. Hood, he gave a neighbor a copy of the Koran and his business card, which listed his name and his MD title, followed by the initials “SOA.” Do you know what “SOA” means? It’s simple: Soldier Of Allah.
As most people have heard by now, this soldier of Allah, as reported by the Washington Post (via Michelle Malkin), gave a very bizarre slideshow presentation several years back while still an Army medical student:
“As a senior-year psychiatric resident at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Maj. Nidal M. Hasan was supposed to make a presentation on a medical topic of his choosing as a culminating exercise of the residency program. Instead, in late June 2007, he stood before his supervisors and about 25 other mental health staff members and lectured on Islam, suicide bombers and threats the military could encounter from Muslims conflicted about fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.”
Included was a PowerPoint presentation that included a slide titled “Comments,” on which he wrote:
“If Muslim groups can convince Muslims that they are fighting for God against injustices of the ‘infidels’; ie: enemies of Islam, then Muslims can become a potent adversary ie: suicide bombing, etc.”
Says the Washington Post article,
“The last bullet point on that page reads simply: ‘We love death more then [sic] you love life!’”
Back to Osama bin Laden’s 1996 screed again, on his jihadi army:
“These youths love death as you loves [sic] life.”
Hmmm….
In a March 2006 column for the Laconia Daily Sun, I asked a series of questions on the subject of Jihad in America:
What if, while patiently waiting and planning the next big “hit,” our enemy was able to commit small, individual attacks randomly throughout the US? Is it possible that the radical Islamo-fascists could unleash such attacks with virtually no coordination or planning, meaning no direct contact or communication between any would-be attackers? Is it possible that a radicalized strain of Islam, subtly taught in mosques throughout the US homeland, can have an effect on the ideological outlook of individuals in attendance week after week? Could some individuals so inclined toward jihad find communion with other like-minded persons via the technologies widely available in today’s modern world? Could ‘ideas’ be implanted in certain persons most receptive to such powers of suggestion? Such occurrences have been characterized as “random acts of jihad.”
Embedded within our military, such people are like little time bombs planted by the enemy, just waiting to go off. Shame on our so-called “leaders” for allowing this to happen. It’s not like they weren’t warned…
