"We are NOT here to fleece the taxpayers"
Demonstrating a verifiable record of success he brings to the table in the upcoming race for NH’s 1st Congressional District House seat, Manchester Mayor Frank Guinta rightfully touts the latest:
Forbes Magazine names Manchester the most affordable city in America for 2009
MANCHESTER (July 21, 2009) – Forbes Magazine released its list of “America’s 100 Cheapest Places To Live” list, and Manchester comes in at Number 1. According to Forbes, “Among the U.S. cities with the most affordable housing and lowest cost of living, the Queen City offers the best combination of safety, employment opportunity and general quality of life.”
“Just three months after Kiplingers.com named Manchester the second most tax-friendly city in America, I am not surprised that Manchester tops the Forbes list,” Manchester Mayor Frank Guinta said. “It is extremely gratifying to see where our city ranks among other communities. As I have stated before, the New Hampshire Advantage and sound fiscal policies at the local level helps make Manchester a great place to work, live and start a business.”
Guinta was particularly pleased with Forbes noticing facets of Manchester that people that live and work here already know. “I whole-heartedly agree with Forbes when it says that ‘Manchester has reinvented itself as a haven for those repelled by the high price of living and doing business in other New England states.’ Our environment is conductive to people starting businesses and weathering the current economic downturn,” Guinta said.
Mayor Guinta said that cities and towns throughout New Hampshire are on the forefront of being fiscally responsible. “Mayors, selectmen, town managers and the public understand the need to keep taxes and spending low, and I salute those community leaders,” Guinta said. “Fiscal discipline is important in good economic times, but vital when things are not so good. I am proud that we are on the Kiplinger’s and Forbes list.”
Mayor Guinta also stated that the honors from Forbes and Kiplinger, while based on current fiscal policy, also stem from actions that go back to the 1990s. “Where we are today involved many stakeholders, but starts with former Mayor Raymond Wieczorek. His financial policies – control spending, reduce taxes and make city government more efficient and responsive – certainly play a role in where we are now.” Guinta said.
It’s too bad that the clowns running the show down in Concord didn’t take a few lessons from Guinta and his team in Manchester regarding frugality. And really, when has Carol Shea Porter done anything that DIDN’T raise taxes and further burden NH’s hard working families?
