All politics is local… 2 of the 3 Gilford Selectmen and the Town Administrator join Skip and Doug for a roundtable discussion of the issues affecting the town. As we often say– While it may not be YOUR town, many of the issues are probably the same– and, you might hear something helpful as you live the engaged life of an active citizen where you live. Selectmen Kevin Hayes and Gus Benevides will field calls and questions along with our recently-hired Town Administrator Scott Dunn.

John C. Wohlstetter is the Vice President of the American Jewish Congress and a foreign policy expert as well as a senior fellow at Discovery Institute. He is the author of The Long War Ahead and the Short War Upon Us and founder and editor of the blog “Letter from the Capitol.” Since fighting broke out last week between Israel and Hamas in the Palestinian controlled area of Gaza, Israel has delivered a startling blow by air and ground. Throughout the battle Hamas has remained steadfast in their commitment to fight the Israelis to the bitter end. Wohlstetter says, “Israel is stuck in a Values Trap.” As the fighting continues, it becomes complicated to understand exactly what’s at stake for Israel. Wohlstetter joins us on air with details and explanations on:
-
Values Trap – Israel is attempting to fight a fair and just war with its humane, civilized sensibility, facing an enemy with genocidal hatred.
-
Diplomacy – Israel does not need a diplomatic settlement which offers concessions that the Palestinians will be unlikely to keep.
-
Negotiations – Israel needs cessation to violence which is an achievable goal with the help of the international community.
-
WMD Attack – Should the Palestinians decide to unleash a WMD on the Israelis, the Israelis would realize en masse that there are far worse things than putting aside one’s cherished humane values. The Israelis would begin a real war which would likely draw in Iran.

Todd Lancaster and Cassandra Nichols are co-Producers/co-Directors at the independent Ether Films. Regular listeners might recall that some time back, Cassandra and Todd joined us in the studio as they shot footage for their documentary film (podcast here) about the 2008 presidential campaign. While at the time tentatively entitled "What it Takes", it has been released as "MIle High: How to Win… and lose… the White House". They’ll chat with us over the phone to give us an update, and to let us know whether we need to pack our bags and head out to Hollywood…
According to the film’s official website,
At 17 years old, Luke is too young to vote; but he’s not too young to make a difference. After campaigning for Barack Obama for more than a year, he decides to travel to the Democratic National Convention in Denver to see Obama deliver his acceptance speech…hoping he can find a ticket once he gets there.
Mile High follows Luke on his journey, from Super Tuesday to Denver and through to Election Day. Along the way it delves into his past, his efforts to help elect President Obama, and his hopes for the future: both his own future and that of his country. The film also follows the presidential candidates themselves, talking to pundits and experts about what it really took to win…and lose…the White House in 2008.
Mile High is a nonpartisan documentary consisting entirely of original footage shot during and after the 2008 election.
In addition to Luke, the film features Tim Russert, Dan Rather, Ron Paul, Terry McAuliffe, Mike Huckabee, Keith Olbermann, Jesse Jackson, Steve Forbes, Chuck Norris (yep- THAT Chuck Norris) Ted Kennedy (THAT Ted Kennedy) Joe Scarborough, Joe Klein, Carl Cameron, Pat Buchanan, along with the major candidates, the Clintons, Arnie Arnesen, and Doug and Skip. HUH!? Doug and Skip? Yep THAT Doug and Skip! It’s a pretty cool movie and, whether you’re an Obama fan or not, if you’re at all interested in the political details that came to bear on the road to the White House in 2008, you’ll like it.
MILE HIGH was recently accepted to the Santa Barbara International Film Festival which runs from January 22nd through February 1st.
