- John Feehery, a contributor to The Hill's Pundit Blog has spent 18 years in a variety of influential positions inside the beltway, both as a staffer for several high-profile members of Congress and as an advocate for a high profile trade association and prominent lobbying firm. He has been called “indefatigable” by Norm Ornstein and “highly-regarded” by the Washington Post’s Al Kamen, and he was named to Roll Call’s Fab Fifty List for six years when he served in Congress. Most recently, Feehery served as Executive Vice President for Global Government Relations and Global Public Relations for the Motion Picture Association of America. We'll discuss Clinton’s economic stimulus package/proposals—how much “bigger government” can she get, and how does she propose to pay for all this? Obama’s endorsement by Kerry—a good thing or a bad thing for him? Does this peg him as a standard liberal, rather than something new in politics? Democratic candidate infighting—good or bad for Republicans?
- Special guest Bill McLean, chairman of the Gunstock Commissioners, drops by the studio to detail the proposal to bring some private investment to the county-owned Gunstock Area. While this is local to Belknap County, the ideas discussed are applicable in other situations, I'm sure. Anytime someone seeks funding for government projects from someplace OTHER than my wallet is something worth looking at.
- As far as the movie thing goes, well, this is the scoop, as we understand it. Cassandra & Tod of Ether Films are in the process of filming a nonpartisan, feature-length political documentary, entitled What It Takes, and they have asked Skip and me to take part. This is from the initial note they sent:
We are filming a non-partisan political documentary focusing on the qualities necessary to become president in 2008, and we’d like to invite you to take part in the project as interviewees..Specifically, we are seeking to clarify something which, until recent years, has never needed clarification: what personal qualities come into play in a media-driven society where a candidate’s every utterance, facial expression or gesture has the potential to be recorded and disseminated worldwide in a matter of minutes. How has the constantly evolving definition of electability affected voters’ perception of the candidates, and of the office itself? What larger implications can be drawn about the overall caliber of people running for the Oval Office and about the system that has come to favor them? Furthermore, what kind of person would be attracted to the presidency under such circumstances?The interview will be worked into the program as it unfolds. Maybe we'll interview them, as well. Prety cool stuff!
