Who is Sununu protecting?

by Doug
Last week, I wondered who exactly MY U.S. Senator John E. Sununu actually represents in Washington, DC. because of what he said in a September 12th speech given at a luncheon hosted by the American Arab Institute. In that speech, he discussed how his Lebanese ancestry allowed him to bring a "personal perspective" to debates involving Arab-related issues in Congress. He claimed this heritage "certainly made a difference" in his "work on the Foreign Relations Committee." I wrote
That’s all wonderful, but, what kind of a "difference" has it made in his "work" on that important committee? And exactly who influences his decision-making? His constituents here in NH, or his ancestors back in his familial homeland?
Perhaps I have found the answer- As a NH citizen, I’m not as happy today as his family back in the "old country" (a terrorist haven) might be- especially if any of them support the spread of radical Islam via the jihadi-method of murder and terror. From today’s New Hampshire Union Leader:
New Hampshire Republican Sens. Judd Gregg and John Sununu are on opposite sides of a Capitol Hill controversy over the interrogation of terrorists. Gregg backs President George W. Bush’s belief that the CIA needs a clear definition of acceptable interrogation tactics and a clarification in law of how the U.S. believes the Geneva Convention interprets the issue.
.
Sununu did not say he opposes the White House on the issue, but he echoed concerns yesterday raised by potential 2008 GOP Presidential hopeful Arizona Sen. John McCain, who is openly fighting Bush on the issue.
Great- he now joins the usual Republican trouble-makers that can always be counted upon to thwart the president at his ever turn in his attempts to defend America against a new kind of enemy- McCain, Graham, Susan Collins, et al. Why does he do this? Don’t we have enough Democrats representing the side of softness in the new world war? Sununu did the same thing during the Patriot Renewal- he held out to the end in order to dilute a necessary terror prevention tool asked for by the president. What, does he not trust President Bush?
.
While travelling yesterday I caught Rush’s radio program. Right near the end of the show, a caller rang in with an excellent point that MY US senator John E. Sununu ought to consider. During the call, he made his point by refering to Democrats- unfortunately, he left out some Republicans like Sununu:
CALLER: Okay, look, I’m really, really getting fed up with all the Democrats crying and whining about our lost freedom. Let me ask a question to the Democrats: Where was your crying and whining whenever I lost my freedom to smoke a cigarette at a barbecue on a beach in California? Where was your crying and whining whenever now I have to wear a helmet instead of choosing to wear a helmet when I ride my motorcycle? It seems like all they care about is giving freedoms to the Mohammed Attas of the world to plan another terrorist attack instead of caring about all freedoms.
.
CALLER: I mean, to be honest with you, Rush, I sat here and I wracked my brain for about a week now trying to figure out exactly what freedoms have I lost because of the Patriot Act. What have I lost?
Thanks to Sununu and his comrades who continue to seek to protect the terrorists’ freedoms, the answer to the caller’s question might be the most important freedom: life itself- if he’s caught in the next terror act undetected because we protected the terrorists’ "rights."
.
We know that McCain is doing what he’s doing to draw attention to himself in advance of his probable presidential run. What’s your excuse, Sen. Sununu? Come on Senator: WAKE UP!
