A Shot Over the Bond Ratings Bow

Wednesday there will be a vote on a bill to make it easier for the state to back private projects with taxpayer money.  We explore what this might do to the bond rating and debt service, who this serves, and what future boondoggles we might expect should it pass.

Greg Kline from Red Maryland is going to join us tomorrow on GrokTALK! to discuss the Baltimore riots.  I was doing some reading in preparation for that interview and came across an article by another contributor at Red Maryland, Brian Griffiths.  In the course of questioning the city’s failure to address issues of poverty, he observes that while there was plenty of investment in Baltimore, it was all very much one-sided.

Huge economic development projects, whether you are a fan or not, were focused away from the places that actually needed the most help.

Maryland is a small state so Baltimore looms large.  New Hampshire doesn’t have a Baltimore but we do have those who fancy bonds for private ventures.

The NH House put the No in Casino yet again.

Update – 156 to 208 on the OTP (Failed)

82 Democrats and 126 Republicans voted no to Casinos in NH.

66 Democrats and 90 Republicans voted for Casinos in NH.

Democrat Governor Hassan had called for a Dem Caucus for full party support in favor–that didn’t work out at all but it wasn’t a total loss.  Democrat elected Speaker Jasper’s Appointed Republican Majority leader voted Maggie’ way.

Breaking News – Constitutional Carry Passes NH House (Update – Roll Call Votes)

Constitutional Carry Passed  the NH House 212 -150.

Now it is on to Governor Margaret Wood Hassan who is an odds-on favorite to veto the legislation cuz her peep’s are all freaked out.

But if you want to be more like Vermont you have to start somewhere.

Contact Governor Hassan and tell her to sign SB116 because it will make us more like Vermont.
