What Follows An Imperial Presidency?

Angelo Codevilla called it back in 2010 when he said there is a large unrepresented portion of the electorate and for good or bad they will demand to be heard- in 2016, by the looks of it. We also talk about the dangers of following Obama’s imperial presidency, with a quick foray in to the … Read more

Kyle Tasker is Your Fault

Elaine Andres Ahern
Shurtleff and Jasper join Ahern in their disdain for voters

Kyle Tasker resigned his House seat Wednesday, probably before they voted to boot him out. Tasker was arrested for possession with intent to sell and soliciting sex from a minor over the internet, which we talked about here. And there is more to discuss on those points. But that’s not the story today. Today, according to NH’s own Ruling Class, Kyle Tasker is your fault.

“We don’t elect them, we try to do the best we can when they get here,” said House Speaker Shawn Jasper.

According to Jasper, Tasker was infamous for showing up to sessions reeking of alcohol and sometimes marijuana.

“I was not surprised at the drug charges. I certainly was in terms of the solicitation of a minor. That was rather shocking,” Jasper said Wednesday.

And it isn’t just Reps registered as Republicans who think you are to blame.

Are Campaign Finance Reformers Ignorant or are They Lying to You?

The unspoken half-truth behind this idea is that while money has influence campaign finance reform does nothing to fix that. Citizen’s United made it better. Campaign finance reform makes it worse.

It removes money that would be spent in open campaigns and shifts it into the pockets of lawyers and lobbyists who spend it on influence inside the beltway or they invest it directly into the pockets and campaigns of elected politicians.

What? You believe that people who are being taxed and regulated are going to stop trying to influence how they are taxed and regulated simply because they can’t buy TV and radio ads or print mailers during an election campaign? Who told you that?

University of Missouri Enrollment Drops 20%

If you’ve forgotten, the University of Missouri had a riot, of sorts. A protest. A sit in, with standing, and shouting. There was fist waving and threats over the alleged outrage over an alleged poop swastika, on an alleged bathroom wall, left–perhaps allegedly–by some alleged descendant of Piltdown Man.

All the finest people were offended. At least one student went on a hunger strike. Their lousy football team refused to play another lousy game. Students missed important instruction in the outrage of hetero-normative oppression. Classes on self-loathing and white privilege came to a halt.

“Last Tuesday, Virginia had a primary—and even though my own name was on the ballot, I checked the box for Ted Cruz.”

Last Tuesday, Virginia had a primary—and even though my own name was on the ballot, I checked the box for Ted Cruz.

When Republicans lost the last Presidential election, the Republican establishment thought it knew just what to do. Pass comprehensive immigration reform. Stop talking about “social issues.” Go along and get along. Don’t rock the boat. Rather than fight for real change, stand by as government grows increasingly incompetent and corrupt. But they didn’t count on Ted Cruz.

Donald Trump Can Say Anything

William Jacobson at Legal Insurrection writes, My point with any big government person, be it Trump, Obama or Hillary, is that once you give them the power, it’s hard to get it back and you lose control over your own lives. You end up putting your faith that they will not abuse that power. If … Read more
