Am reading down through the list of LSRs – thoughts of our legislators for bills for the upcoming session.  Well, we see that at least ONE person hates the idea that law abiding Citizens can’t be trusted with firearms without yet one more database kept on its citizens.

If she can’t take it from you, she certainly wants to know exactly who owns what. And with that last one, if it goes where I think it will, shall forbid any private sale of firearms. Like if one of the other Groksters had a firearm that they no longer wanted but did catch my interest (of which I can think of several)?  And WHY is it any of your business, Ms. Andrews-Ahearn?  Are you scared of the guns, or the citizens that possess them?  Or is this, yet again, the Progressive way – punish the bad folk by punishing all of us?  What is it about being a busybody that inserts themselves into everyone else’s lives, stops them from doing what they like (or at least makes it far more difficult), and then feels good about themselves?  Were you, in a former life, a National Park Service that enjoyed keeping WW II vets, or Korean War vets, or Viet Name War vets out of their memorials?  Does it give you “a thrill up my leg” in determining how others MUST live their lives?

First on the Socialists – an observation from El Rushbo:

Let me give you an interesting observation on William F. Buckley. It’s a quote, but it’s more an observation. Buckley pointed out that in the ’30s we were told we had to “collectivize the nation,” i.e., big government. Go socialist. We had to collectivize the nation because the people were so poor, and now we’re told that we have to collectivize because the people are so rich — and he’s right.

Back in the thirties, FDR, all the boys? “Oh, yeah, we got way too many poor people! We need to go socialism so that we can raise standards of living.” Today why are we doing it? “‘Cause we got too many rich people, and they’re stealing everybody’s everything, and we gotta take it from ’em.” I think it’s a great observation.

For me, this is the money quote from the post: The states have an excellent opportunity to take back their responsibilities from Uncle Sam and give them back to local agencies, municipalities,  and the people who pay for all of it; who may then see what it is that really needs doing, and reapportion those funds accordingly, even if that means giving them back to the people who earned them.

…The American Battle Monuments Commission attributed the closure to the government shutdown. “Due to a lack of funding for ABMC operations (U.S. Government shutdown), ABMC cemeteries and memorials are temporarily closed,” the commission said.

…Ferguson told the Washington Examiner that the commission has $85 million left over from fiscal year 2012.

WE own it – not you!  WE own it – not Government.  You are MERELY the caretakers of our stuff – learn your place!

We often show much deference to those that work in Government – and generally more to elected officials (I think more so the higher the office and the further away they are – which makes NH so special as we just treat them just like the folks down the street).  But certainly, from my view point as one of those citizens that the DC based politicians love to lay the Hate on (um, a probably more than a few, on both sides of the aisle, here in NH ’cause I seldom keep quiet) simply because I stand for a limited government that spends within its citizens’ means and within Constitutional boundaries and values.  And a government that knows its Proper Role – which it does not seem to understand anymore at the Federal level.  From what I see of Obama, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi (and yes, some on the Republican side as well) et al.

Another story like that of Obama refusing to let the WW II Vets into their own memorial – Great Smokey National Park (emphasis mine, reformatted):

So, we still plan to hike in Great Smoky National Park, but we have chosen a trail where we can park outside the park on private land and then hike into the park. We intend to defy any ranger we meet who tries to stop us, but by not putting a vehicle in a vulnerable position under their control, we give them less power over us in such circumstances.

Finally, I want to make one more point. This is the United States of America, supposedly “the land of the free and the home of the brave.” Yet, in my essay above I describe how American citizens are either hiding from or protecting themselves from agents of our government, even though they have done nothing wrong.

I watched the Obama Administration issue the “Washington Monument Act” strategy (e.g., shut down citizen-popular stuff to extract the most amount of pain and frustration) by fiat that all National Parks be closed – even those areas that normally not manned like the War Memoriasl on the National Mall that are ordinarily “open air”.  He and his minions smiled – once again, pulling the Community Organizer tool box out in agitating the crowds towards the outcome they wanted.  The Imperious President thundering forth “I don’t have to offer ANYTHING” – as he targets the House Republicans just as he used to do the Chicago elites.  Well worn, well played, and successful.

Cakewalk, they thought.  We can cower anyone.  Except a monkey wrench showed up.  A few hundred, actually

A bunch of old, enfeebled WW II Vets, from whose ranks thousands are  dying every day,came to DC.  Some walking, some behind walkers, many being wheeled to THEIR memorial earned those decades ago as THEIR gift to the nation. And many paid that ultimate gift for the rest of us.  The survivors simply made the journey (by gifts by others to them for this) to see what a grateful nation gifted back to them.  THEIR MEMORIAL earned by their blood, their wounds, and their dead buddies.

In front of them, in their way, stood Obama.
