University of California Berkeley is the “fabled” home of the free speech movement back in the 60s.  Nowadays, not so much as we’ve seen the political correctness/cultural Marxism reach its nadir with respect to LIMITING that same concept.  You know, some dribble about offense, safe spaces, and oppression except it hasn’t stopped at just debate – the Left, as Steve notes, is more and more willing to resort to either the threat or actual violence to limit other peoples’ speech as the we saw at UCB (first with Milo and now with Ann Coulter) and other college campuses (notably Middlebury College where Charles Murray and a Middlebury College professor were physically assaulted).  It is, I’m afraid, going to get much MUCH worse before (if?) it gets better as it seems that the radicals of the 60s have made good at “turning” students into anti-American droids (all the while using our tax monies to do so).

A reminder of how a former CA Governor handled similar problems at UCB (emphasis mine):

In an extremely controversial move, for which he never apologized, Reagan declared a state of emergency and sent in 2,200 National Guard troops. He enacted a curfew and banned public assembly for two weeks. The National Guard patrolled the streets of Berkeley, dispersing any crowd of four or more. It wasn’t pretty, but they restored order.

There is a classic, should-be-in-the-Smithsonian clip of Reagan at a press conference after the fact with university administrators. He says: “Those people told you for days in advance that if the university sought to go ahead with that construction, they were going to physically destroy the university.”

Higher sodium intake associated with lower blood pressure. You read that right.

Wait.  WHAT??  You mean I have deprived myself (except on French fries and corn on the cob) all these years for nothing (reformatted, emphasis mine)?

In another blow against decades of accepted medical wisdom, one of the most prestigious, long-running studies reports that lowering sodium intake doesn’t reduce blood pressure. The study also implies that most Americans are consuming a perfectly healthy amount of salt, the main source of sodium. But those who are salt-sensitive, about 20 to 25 percent of the population, still need to restrict salt intake.

One who is NOT salt-sensitive is TMEW as she puts salt, copious amounts of salt, on everything (except, perhaps ice cream – haven’t PERSONALLY seen her do that, but I can’t swear to it).  Yet, her blood pressure is WAY low – like being “athlete low” except she doesn’t exercise at all.

Awe sheesh.  Liberals and Progressives HATE it when we want to cut even a single sacred dollar out of a budget. “It’s an apocalypse!” they decry; “how ever can government run with such a cut!”.

Sidenote: Doubt me?  Come to our Budget Committee meetings later on this fall – I can almost get that reaction on demand.

Yet, when we conservatives and “less government is better govt” types start pointing out that things aren’t quite working out as these spenders predict, they either try to gloss over it and get it off the table or exclaim “you hate children, you Nazi” (ok, perhaps a bit of hyperbole on that first one). But why appropriate $$$ for stuff that gets bought to sit and rust (emphasis mine, reformatted)?

SHOT: California’s Chief Justice Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye letter to Dept of Homeland Security (emphasis mine):

As officers of the court, we judges uphold the constitutions of both the United States and California, and the executive branch does the same by ensuring that our laws are fairly and safely enforced. But enforcement policies that include stalking courthouses and arresting undocumented immigrants, the vast majority of whom pose no risk to public safety, are neither safe nor fair. They not only compromise our core value of fairness but they undermine the judiciary’s ability to provide equal access to justice. I respectfully request that you refrain from this sort of enforcement in California’s courthouses.

That was my first interaction with Zandra Rice-Hawkins – she almost Alinsky’d me during McCain’s run for Prez when she was fronting for the Socialist-all-in union called the SEIU.  I took a picture of one of her “I’m a healthcare voter” voters – frankly a lard-ass holding two plates of food lumbering across the backyard and Zandra didn’t like it that I put her picture up even as I had blurred out her face.  Zandra attempted to use Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals #4:

“Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.” If the rule is that every letter gets a reply, send 30,000 letters. You can kill them with this because no one can possibly obey all of their own rules. (This is a serious rule. The besieged entity’s very credibility and reputation is at stake, because if activists catch it lying or not living up to its commitments, they can continue to chip away at the damage.)

I ended up calling HER out instead for lying and misleading people and since 2007 when that post was written, she has continued, as Trump might say, continued to be “Lyin Zandra”. IMHO, it fits.

…I never saw “Social Construct” staring back at me from the other end of my microscope(s).  Frankly, Saturday’s “March for Science” was dumb, unscientific, and completely devoid of any Principles that were drilled into my head as to how REAL science operates.  That line of that shirt is a complete nullification of hundreds of hours spent as a lab rat getting high on formaldehyde and other obnoxious chemicals.  In fact, that line IGNORES science completely.

Nope, from my perspective, this is yet another example of how Socialists / Progressives have politicized yet another area of life. What now matters is the narrative instead of scientific Truth.  All those whiners were doing were despoiling the good name of Science and showed the rest of us that Science now, in large measure, getting down on your knees and begging Government to be even bigger and throw more money at them.

Leeches, Remoras – I see no difference between those two sucking parasites and those that marched in the streets.  Both of them have one and only one purpose in life: live off of others. They turned from the Scientific and to the Political.

Treat them as such.

But as always, “mo’ money, mo’ money, mo’ money” is needed when two simple letters strung together would suffice (but that would require self-control and self-responsibility; two former ideals that were considered to be virtuous in our pre-Progressive past).  From an article titled “Amid gonorrhea outbreak, health officials urge for thorough STD screenings”, the Concord Monitor decided that personal behavior wasn’t at fault here for skyrocketing (and “unexpected!”) rates of STDs.  Nope, a preventative “no” never enters into their equation – after all, “urges” must be consummated in our no boundaries / no regrets morality, right?  Nope, here’s the reason why this article caught my eye (picked apart here, reformatted and emphasis mine):

…The sexually transmitted disease had reached outbreak levels in New Hampshire, according to the department. Between 2007 and 2013, the disease had stayed level at about 130 cases per year. Then, in 2016, the department got 465 reported cases – a 250 percent increase. “The amount of increase has certainly been surprising to us,” said State Epidemiologist Dr. Benjamin Chan. Chan and his office are now conducting research to figure out why more people are contracting the disease, but there are other STD increases to worry about. From 2011 to 2015, cases of chlamydia in the Granite State went up by 22 percent and syphilis rose by 81 percent.

It’s not just New Hampshire; America’s STD rates are at an all-time high, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Doctors and public health officials attribute the increase to a few different factors, including lack of access to health care and screening and a decrease in condom use and people having multiple partners.
