Former Executive Councilor and failed candidate for governor Andru Volinsky is representing two folks suing the state of New Hampshire after it removed a historical marker honoring devoted communist and activist Elizabeth Gurley Flynn.
Comrade Volinsky got some bad news this week. A judge has ruled that his clients, Mary Lee Sargent and Arnold Alpert, do not have standing to sue the state for removing a historical marker honoring Communist Elizabeth Gurley Flynn. I have to wonder if he knew that and just took their money.
The saga of the Elizabeth Gurley Flynn state historical marker drags on. Flynn—a labor leader, feminist, founding member of the American Civil Liberties Union, and an avowed member and chairperson of the Communist Party USA—was recognized this spring with a historical highway marker in her hometown of Concord.
On March 24, 1984, my Marine Corps infantry company took off on a night training mission in South Korea. Tragically, the CH-53 helicopter behind mine lost altitude and slammed into a mountaintop. Thirty-three Marines died. Memories endure of helping carry bodies down that mountain.
