In response to Foster’s 8/22/11 editorial:
Apparently, Foster’s did not have a politically astute reporter at the NH GOP Annual Meeting this spring, or Foster’s would understand the dynamics of what is occurring in the NH GOP right now. John Sununu had handpicked his successor for NH GOP chair and it wasn’t Jack Kimball.
In fact, Sununu was so opposed to the potential of Kimball’s election as chair, that he openly campaigned for his candidate from the chairman’s podium. I had always had the outmost respect for Sununu, but his opposition to Kimball was so blatant that I chastised him from the floor of that meeting.
Despite all of Sununu’s effort Kimball was overwhelmingly elected Chairman by the delegates. Sununu was visibly upset at the outcome. Foster’s editorial board missed the mark if they believe that Sununu is just missing in action.
Despite the damage that is occurring to the NH GOP it is apparent that Sununu has intentionally withheld his much needed assistance. Sununu’s behavior undermines any potential success Kimball might have accomplished and, which would have greatly benefited the NH GOP.
His behavior does not reflect his usual good judgment and is uncharacteristically devoid of any concern for the damage that is being done to not only the NH GOP, but also to our Republican field nationwide. Sununu is without excuse. He could have been magnanimous and worked with Kimball. Kimball is one of the easiest and most accessible people I have ever dealt with in the GOP.
I would ask Mr. Sununu to restore my good opinion of him by “manning up”, and for the good of the Country roll up his sleeves and help Chairman Kimball now, before it is too late.
Sincerely,
Mary Bonser
