Such a BIG (ego) bus….

The Hill:

The country’s automakers should ditch their focus on SUVs and trucks in favor of smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles, President Obama said Monday.

“You can’t just make money on SUVs and trucks,” Obama said during a town hall forum in Cannon Falls, Minn. “There is a place for SUVs and trucks, but as gas prices keep on going up, you have got to understand the market. People are going to try to save money.”

Like King Canute, Obama thinks he can just utter the words and the Laws of Physics and Economics will bend to his whims. Remember his words, though, before his election: "We are five days from fundamentally transforming America".  With his control of the auto manufactures financially  (via loans, tax treatments, and bailouts, and control given to unions) coupled with the stranglehold he is putting on the oil companies and the use of our own energy  resources, he is transforming that industry.  With these new mileage standards, he is:

  • dictating the size of American families via the size of its cars
  • on his own whim, subverting the marketplace by deliberately destroying the internal combustion engine powered industry (picking a loser) and replacing it with EVs (creating a winner)
  • with the war on coal, limiting the amount of electricity generated – creating the equivalent of "do I pay the rent or pay for groceries" – do I turn on the lights or power the car?

Once again, we see NOT the individual able to choose for themselves and their family needs, but the Progressive Administrative State determining what we will like and what is best for us (we ignorant saps!).

This is not about environmentalism (unless you consider it Watermelon – green on the outside and red on the inside) but it is about power – and who holds it. This is not an inconsequential decision not made by our elected officials in Congress but by faceless bureaucrats that are unelected and unaccountable.

Is this the kind of America we want, ceding our choices to others?

Such a load to bear…
