The Debt Ceiling is pretty much wrapped up in this picture; let’s discuss:
- Moody’s AND Standard and Poor’s proximity alarms are going off
- And not just over the sympton (the debt ceiling), not the disease twice over:
- The willingness of Progressives and Lovers of Big Government to spend money we don’t have – continuously.
- The politicalese over the blame game- a game of MAD-BPTWTOTA (Mutual Assured Destruction by Pinning the Wrong Tail on the Asses).
The FINANCIAL problem, the rot that is lurking under the veneer of the most powerful country in the world is not financial, but a corruption of morals both on the part of the politicians and we who have put these lunkheads in charge of affairs. Yet, while Obama demonizes the other side for saying "Stop", he himself has not put a single thing in writing, with his signature on it. All he is doing, all that he knows how to do, all that he can do, is to continue to act as a community organizer acting according to the rules of his mentor, Saul Alinsky. We have NO idea what he really is putting forward as a plan – all we get is a gauzey, filmie rhetoric used during the last campaign. Problem is, this is not a campaign but a for real problem. And as always, Obama is using the "leading from behind" of a C.O. and that is not true leadership.
What are the REAL arguments here, with the debt ceiling crisis as a proxy?
- Are we going to have a European Socialist Democracy where we are wards of the State?
- Will the American populace return to, to learn, understand, and practice our historical American Exceptionalism philosophy?
This is truly a real difference in Philosophy. To the former, we have these enlightening words of wisdom from the Progressives that believe that Government knows best:
- "Government has to protect us from our own stupidity." – NH Rep Kris Roberts (D-Keene)
- "We are taking away a choice that continues to let people waste their own money" – Energy Secretary Steven Chu
- And I do not want, and I will not accept, a deal in which I am asked to do nothing, in fact, I’m able to keep hundreds of thousands of dollars in additional income that I don’t need, while a parent out there who is struggling to figure out how to send their kid to college suddenly finds that they’ve got a couple thousand dollars less in grants or student loans. – President Obama
The latter, certainly, words from a Petulant President?
Roberts is not the only one that believes this – this is at the heart of the Progressive mantra that ordinary people are incapable of running their own lives because "life is too complicated". They require "guidance from Government" run by highly educated technocrats within the bureaucracy to craft the laws and regulations by which to manage "an efficient society".
Certainly, it seems, that Progressives believe that we have far too many choices, as indicated by Secretary Chu with his statement. Simply, however, this is the conceit of knowledge as posited by F.A. Hayek. It is a believe, by those in charge, that the elites simply just do not understand that they do not have sufficient information to effectively govern a marketplace of millions of needs except by the heavy hand of government. It also shows a heavy dose of conceit and disdain for the ordinary citizen – not only do we make bad decisions but we cannot even spend our own money correctly. We must told what is good, and what is bad. And the latter is done similarly to what a parent does for a young child – simply make the bad decision go away (like taking away one toy that is "not good" from a toddler’s eyes).
And Obama is the chief of this philosophy. To wit, how DARE he believe that it is the role of government to "allow" people who have had a good return on their investment of time and talent? Where is it in the Constitution that Govt has this power? Or have we succumbed to the Progressive mantra that Govt should also be the final arbiter of who should receive which resources? from this?
From each according to his ability, to each according to his need
what is truly sad is that our Educational system, either on purpose or by stupidity, has allowed many to believe that this phrase is enshrined in OUR Founding Documents (as opposed to where it actually derived).
