You know what I think is incongruous? I have been watching the activities, as most of us have, of the teachers union (among other public unions) assembled in Madison, WI as they have been demonstrating against the bill that Gov. Walker has proposed in order to help stem the $3.6 Billion deficit by weakening the ability of public unions for collective bargaining. But when there’s no money, there’s no money. It also breaks that vicious cycle of unions spending huge amounts of money during elections on pro-candidate candidates that then turn out to be the negotiators during collective bargaining sessions.
Sure, how hard are they going to bargain with a group that can toss them out of office simply because there was no "loyalty" during the sessions? That said, here is the real concern about these teachers:
What kind of role model are they projecting – how can their action NOT be construed as bullying?
Face it – are they acting any better than some of their worst students? Except they can’t blame the parents in this case (or can we?). We heard "This is what democracy looks like!" – frankly, it seemed to be more of a mob to me. A mob that is acting like little kids that have been told by adults "no more games". The election was held – Gov. Walker campaigned on this – he was elected by a majority of folks that agreed with him.
This is nothing more than unions trying to undo the election.
Much as been made here in NH about the new anti-bulllying law that is so co-linked with "zero tolerance" policies that are nationwide. Why are administrators so insistent on applying those regs to their students – but not to their staffs? How can these teachers now return to their classrooms and return the stares of their students and the questions of
"I saw your signs and heard what you said; how come you can skip school and say and do those things and I can’t?"
Like I said – role models.
