What is one to make of our "public servants" who are screaming "PAY US!"? While the Middle East is going through its Days of Rages, it seems that the public unions in Wisconsin and Ohio are doing their’s as well. In listening to one of the news clips, I heard the crowd shouting "This is how Democracy works! This is how Democracy works!"
No, that is how a mob behaves.
And what is one to think when the Teachers Union there basically calls out their members to leave their classroom on a "sick day" to protest that they are taking a pay cut? The irony does not escape: paid on the taxpayer dime to complain that they are not being paid enough taxpayer money. At that point, the paradigm goes 180: who is the servant and who is the master (you wait, I’ll get hate mail for the use of "master")? Face it, if they don’t like the working conditions, they can go elsewhere. Nobody is locked into that union, they can do something else. Remember, NO one is entitled to a job. Especially when behaving badly.
Ponder this too: if it were "all about the children", then why did the teachers knowingly leave in sufficient numbers such that schools had to close? That is "caring about the children" when their taxpayer parents lost their day of pay because the union is upset about notion "how DARE you take from us!" (referring to the newly elected Republican governor who campaigned on this issue: public unions compensation is breaking the state). It is time like these that I no longer see the teacher desk and the red apple; instead, the image is that of Teamsters wielding tire irons (sigh…in my town, the Teamsters wear the blue uniforms, badges, and Glocks). Instapundit quotes rightly:
The very first comment: “These people are the ones teaching the children? Nice. This really makes me want to forgo my own retirement in order to finance theirs. Fire them all.”
and this:
“What do you think would happen if a student in a public school called the principal a dictator and put crosshairs on his face? Given the prevailing zero-tolerance (aka zero-thought) policies, the best the student could hope for would be a lengthy suspension. These people really have no clue.”
All in a state, Wisconsin, that is $3.6 Billion in the hole.
Ask yourself – for those that "care about the State", what do you make of this when they are done:
The sign says "If I’m a GREAT worker WHY are you treating me this way?
Note to sign holder: GREAT workers don’t leave their trash behind – they clean up after themselves. Like the TEA Party folks have done. From the Instapundit:
“Funny, the people that expect the state to pay their way act like this. The people that don’t, don’t. A sense of entitlement is an ugly thing.”
Just like in Greece – people demanding more from Government even as the realization spreads among those that pay for it that Government has to do with less.
