All politics is local. While the names and places may be different, the issues and kinds of players remain much the same. Many people agree that America’s civil decline, ignorance of the Constitution, and thus, loss of liberty, starts in the government schools. Movement Conservatives know they must engage in the battle for the hearts and minds in the school systems, and work for a return to understanding of the values and foundational principles that made this Nation great. Former Laconia City Councilor Roland Mahue, local businessman and former teacher and administrator, has stepped up and decided to make a run for that city’s Ward 6 school board seat. Despite the realities of the present economic times, and the existence of a tax cap, the big spenders and cheerleaders of the educational-industrial complex have dreams of closing the existing centrally-located high school and moving it to the far outskirts of town. Aside from adding additional busing costs, the larger question is whether it really fixes what’s broke? Roland will be instudio and looks forward to taking calls at 603 527 1490. We’ll ask him about all the federal bucks falling from Heaven, and the supplemental appropriation process and whether it has the effect of circumventing the tax cap.

Film maker Phelim McAleer is certainly hitting the stage in a big way this week. In addition to the release this weekend of his new move, Not Evil, Just Wrong, he gained notoriety as being one of the few people to publicly challenge Al Gore and his global warming assertions. No doubt you’ve either heard or watched the exchange involving the questioning of facts in Gore’s Inconvenient Truth movie and polar bears, and the cutting of the mic.
The result, of course, is allowing even more people to see for themselves the facade that is AlGore and his global warming hucksterism. We’ll thank Phelim, both for the question, and his movie. Not Evil, Just Wrong examines the shaky scientific work that Al Gore used in his documentary "An Inconvenient Truth", the costs of environmental alarmism in Africa stemming from the ban on DDT, and the economic price that Gore’s climate change regime would impose on coal-producing rural America. The producers are debuting the film simultaneously across the country at 8pm EST on Sunday, October 18th. (We will be joining our friends at the Josiah Bartlett Center at the Draft Bar and Grill on Main Street in Concord for the event)

The “play-or-pay” health insurance mandate for employers being considered by Congress would cost Granite State businesses $215 million to $229 million.

As a result of a proposed income tax surcharge that would create three new marginal tax rate brackets, New Hampshire businesses that file through the individual tax code would face a combined income tax rate of 47.25%

In a survey of American states and Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development nations, this higher tax rate (47.25%) would place New Hampshire behind Canada (46.41%), France (45.8%) and Italy (44.9%) in terms of combined federal, state and local income tax rate burdens.
