Welcome to your Wednesday, Groktober 28th, 2026, morning update. Concealed carry, well, the entire point of concealed carry is concealment. Nobody knows if you’re carrying a firearm. That’s why concealed carry laws tend to be very unpopular with would-be criminals because if somebody might have equal or superior firepower, you might be less likely to do something illegal.

But the hoplophobes never rest, and they use the so-called security industry as justification for all kinds of crazy things. And the latest one is a Wi-Fi detection system that can identify if somebody is carrying a concealed firearm.

A group of AI researchers at the Swedish Defense Research Agency has developed an AI system that can identify concealed handguns using Wi-Fi signals, offering a nonintrusive alternative to visible cameras and cumbersome metal detectors. Detailed in a recent paper published on October thirteenth, the system called WiFireNet analyzes channel state information from how an object distorts ambient Wi-Fi signals. The full system comprises a Wi-Fi transmitter, a Wi-Fi receiver, and the Wi-FireNet AI.

Apparently, Wi-Fi bounces off different objects differently, which of course makes sense.

Water bottles, cell phones, rubber guns, actual firearms. With the right software and the right training, I suppose you could identify just about anything anybody had on them if that was something you felt you needed to do.

A long list of organizations and individuals would like to know if you are armed. It does, however, defeat the entire purpose of concealment.

But governments in the security industrial complex never rest.

AMMOLAND adds that other systems utilizing different technologies are already out there, including ventures like the OmniLert AI gun detection system, which basically appears to recognize openly carried guns. There’s also Zero Eyes, which detects potential threats from visible firearms and knives to intruders, and competitors like Brivo to identify brandished guns in a person’s hand.

Private businesses and event venues might see this as an opportunity to improve circumstances for their customers. They are, of course, welcome to do whatever they want as long as they tell people that they are being surveilled. You should be free to make a choice as to whether or not you want to participate or patronize those locations.

There are, of course, government Fourth Amendment concerns. This is effectively a search without your consent and without a warrant.

Maybe there’s a new market or industry for signs warning people that they are entering buildings or areas where this sort of technology exists.

That’s all well and good, but what about felons and illegal alien felons?

Those municipalities have been turning off their CCTV, canceling their flock contracts, and turning off their shot spotters. All so that illegal aliens and felons who some judge just set loose without bail aren’t identified by federal agents whose job it might just be to keep those people from causing you harm.

I can imagine those same people wanting to know if law-abiding citizens are armed, but maybe not at the expense of their other agendas, which include allowing criminals with arms to wander the streets and do to you whatever they want.

So much for public safety.

That’s it for today. I’ll talk to you tomorrow.
