Morning Update: Gas Prices

Today, on the Morning Update, Democrats are running on “high gas prices” as if they don’t love that, implement policies that make them higher, and won’t continue to do so if elected next week.

Welcome to your Tuesday, Groktober 27th, 2026, morning update. As promised on Grok Talk last night, I am going to talk about some of the issues Democrats have made key to their blue wave next Tuesday. First, gas prices. Democrats have never wanted cheap gas prices. Ever. And they’ve had quite a few policies that provide examples of how and why that happens.

Democrat-controlled states show a persistent premium of roughly 45 to 55% per gallon over Republican-controlled ones, with most of the gap traceable to the following identifiable policies: higher gasoline taxes, carbon pricing, low carbon fuel standards, and specialized reformulated gasoline requirements.

A regulatory environment that is hostile to refining infrastructure capacity, you name it.

Emissions and compliance rules. Biofuel mandates and renewable fuel standards. California’s gas tax is around sixty cents a gallon, plus a cap-and-trade and carbon fuel standard that adds another thirty cents.

Blue State gas taxes and/or additional carbon or emissions taxes are sold as good for the environment, but the numbers show these states don’t have cleaner air than the states that don’t have them. So what you really have are more taxes, and higher taxes, creating what? The opportunity for more waste, fraud, and abuse.

States with blending requirements add roughly 44 cents a gallon to the cost of your gasoline.

[And] Regardless of what they say the tax is for, it has one purpose: to put money in the government’s hands so it can spend it instead of you.

But the problems aren’t just at the state level.

Obama said prices would necessarily skyrocket under his programs. Joe Biden said he would end fossil fuels forever. Shutting down pipeline projects and other infrastructure doesn’t just kill jobs. You need pipelines and refining capacity to make sure you have product.

If you don’t, you not only end up at a higher base price before you add all the taxes and fees, you are at the mercy of foreign suppliers, who can then use the price of gas and the price of oil to leverage things out of you they normally wouldn’t be able to. This again adds additional costs. The lack of capacity makes your heating bills go up. The lack of capacity makes your electricity bills go up.

Many states are still trying to embrace the Paris Climate Accords, which is just a list of regulatory and emissions requirements that make your gasoline, electricity, and heating bills more expensive.

Oil is a weapon, and the best situation to be in is to have more than you need and more than everybody else.

Mr. Trump, with the help of at least a few Republicans, has worked really hard to make America the number one producer of oil on planet Earth. He has secured supply from Venezuela and deals with countries all over the world, trying to ensure that America can not only build the infrastructure and refining capacity, but also become the center of the oil universe, making us pretty much bulletproof when it comes to energy.

And if you look at the situation in Iran, which the Democrats love to talk about, if a Democrat were in charge and we were in a similar circumstance, gas would be at least twice as much, the war would have cost at least three times as much, and we probably would have had less than one-third of the objectives, if we had any objectives at all, other than making gas more expensive. And that’s really important because you have to understand that Democrats would do just about anything, including putting our service members in harm’s way just to drive up the price of gasoline, because they don’t want you driving cars at all.

They want you trapped near or in their cities, their blue cities, where your votes don’t count at all. They want you using public transportation. They don’t want you having the benefits of private personal mobility.

Those of you who could still afford a car, they want you in an EV, not as reliable, not as much range, entirely dependent on electricity infrastructure at prices that, believe it or not, would be more than they are today, even in states where Democrats have driven those prices through the roof.

Gas prices, as far as Democrats are concerned, have absolutely nothing to do with affordability unless you mean they will do anything and everything to make them unaffordable.

Vote blue on Tuesday, and Democrats will do everything and anything in their power to ensure that nobody can make your gas more affordable and that they can make it more expensive.

Vote red next Tuesday, and Republicans and Mr. Trump will continue to try to build an America that sets the price of oil instead of having to pay whatever the foreign market decides.

That’s it for today. I’ll talk to you tomorrow.
