Someone is running an ad for Chris Pappas that apes the lies we debunked from Stefany Shaheen.
The false narrative is that Trump cut health benefits and made prescriptions cost more for seniors. It’s actually the opposite.
The fine print from the article Shaheen linked?
“The Journal quoted an administration official who said the additional subsidies gave insurers an incentive to raise premiums because the government would absorb much of the added cost. The official also said the subsidies were no longer necessary, saying that other measures aimed at keeping Medicare Part D costs in check remain in place.”
Wait, there’s more the sister left Unreported.
“The administration official told the Journal that about a quarter of Medicare Part D beneficiaries would see their premiums remain unchanged or decline next year, while roughly 30% would face monthly increases of less than $10.”
[More from that article here.]
More generally, democrats have also run the Cut Health Care benefits lie after Trump and Republicans enforced the law and expanded it to ensure that the only people getting taxpayer-funded health care support at your expense were legally eligible.
Democrats are running against enforcing laws passed by Congress and against investigating or ending fraud that is bilking these systems for trillions.
What Pappas and Shaheen (and every other damn democrat running for anything) want, without saying it, is for illegals and people who can work to spend your money on “free” government services to which they are not entitled.
Here’s a recent take from The Federalist on one aspect of this “debate.”
The program has allowed foreigners to come here and force taxpayers to pay for their health issues while many Americans themselves struggle with rising health care costs. Take for example one refugee identified by KFF Health News as Ahin, who came to the U.S. in 2024.
These programs are expensive and bloated, and Trump is trying to turn them into lean, affordable programs for Americans who need them. And yes, I think they are excessive and unconstitutional, and should be state-level (not federal), optional for states, and private/non-profit with oversight whenever possible, but that argument isn’t going to get us past the midterms, and moving them there will take years or educating voters we don’t have.
Democrats know this is a pressure point, and they are working it, but they misspelled “free crap for illegals.” That’s what they are running on, which -btw-includes protecting criminal illegals here already (and their benefits) and bringing in or back more illegals.
I’m not sure how you share that message in your local and town groups, but it needs to get to republicans and independents who might be thinking about committing local, state, or national suicide by either not voting or not voting for Republicans.
