A point I don’t see mentioned often enough when monthly jobs reports come out is that these are real jobs. Past Administrations have used tax dollars to grow government and then crow about how many “jobs” they created.
Real jobs add value, while Government jobs are net drags on the economy, so their creation ought to be reported as a loss. Especially since most of those jobs in the government take more money per year in pay and benefits than the average American earns.
Net loss.
The federal workforce has contracted by 336,000 employees since President Donald Trump took office, reflecting his administration’s drive to reduce the size of the government bureaucracy.
Federal government employment fell by another 5,000 in August to 2.674 million, the Labor Department said Friday. That is down from 3.010 million in January 2025, a decline of 11.2 percent.
Trump cut 5,000 jobs from the federal government, while the economy added 162,000 jobs.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported there were 162,000 jobs added in August, while the unemployment rate remained unchanged at a low 4.1 percent.
The BLS noted that the average monthly gain over the previous 12 months has been 31,000.
The total number of jobs added in June was revised up from 20,000 to 31,000, and July was up 44,000, meaning a jobs gain of 21,000 versus a jobs loss of 23,000 as originally reported.
I say the economy because when you get the government out of the way, and cutting the federal workforce is but one of many initiatives to do just that, it is free to create jobs where the markets and demand create need.
Adding a division of apparatchiks to serve various made-up ministries for that purpose (more salaried dependents who will vote Democrat and donate to the campaign that makes their jobs possible). Those jobs then slow down the real economy while laundering tax dollars into the coffers of the one-party state that promises to create more of them. Not real jobs.
These are real jobs.
Fox Business News’ Cheryl Casone noted that manufacturing jobs came in higher than expected at 16,000. They are up by 50,000 since December 2025, according to the BLS.
Small changes signal the potential for much greater change, including this.
“August also marked the first increase in the labor force participation rate in eight months,” it allowed. “And the number of people working part-time for economic reasons fell to its lowest level in nearly two years.”
Onshoring investment capital and manufacturing capacity is essential to our supply chain and national security. Democrats had it all going the other way with no plan to change direction.
It’s what they do, and they’ll do it again given the opportunity, so let’s not do that. The Trump economy is clearly resilient and growing. Don’t let Democrats undermine it before it has a chance to take off.
