It appears New Hampshire will very likely lose millions of dollars in tax revenue and much-needed local property tax relief.
Somewhat recently, Governor Kelly Ayotte announced her support for a moratorium on the construction of data centers in New Hampshire. “It does not make sense to site a data center in New Hampshire,” Ayotte said.
The Governor hasn’t said how she arrived at this statement.
Data centers are the interstate highway of the 21st century, with high-speed commerce lanes driving markets and ideas forward. Building data centers would expand the technology-related tax base by millions of dollars and reduce the strain on local property taxpayers.
But NIMBY is the prevailing attitude in New Hampshire.
This attitude means millions of dollars in commercial tax revenue from data centers will be lost to both Maine and New York, and their state treasuries and local property tax base will be saying a resounding, big thank you to NIMBY New Hampshire!
