After 12 years of dissecting Donald Trump’s character every day and his being unsuitable for office, every one of these same politicians is coming to the defense of Graham Platner, who is a candidate for the U.S. Senate representing Maine.
There has been a constant drip of issues in Platner’s past that may disqualify him from continuing his campaign. After Governor Janet Mills dropped out of the race, citing a lack of funds to launch a respectable campaign, Platner was left uncontested and thought it would be a cakewalk to a November showdown with incumbent Susan Collins.
The primary period was to be quiet and uneventful. Instead, we wake every morning to another tidbit of Platner’s past, and some current events that are bringing his character to the center of the stage. Many of these accusations would normally be enough to force someone out of the race, but not Platner. He is in it for the long haul. He knows that we have an ignorant electorate, and there is a good chance that the Democratic voters will be unaware of the stories and send him off to Washington.

There are so many stories written about Platner, and everyone paying attention knows what a deceitful bottom-feeder he is. I am more concerned about the reactions of his supporters on the Left and the plot I see unfolding that will make all of this a ruse. Maine has a unique election law- what a surprise- that if someone wins the primary and drops out of the race before the beginning of July, the Party can put the person of its choice in as a substitute. Can’t you see Janet Mills warming up on the sidelines, aching to get back into the Senate run? As far as quality of character, Platner and Mills are interchangeable, and neither is good for Maine.
Platner’s big guns, Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, are sitting tight in their protégés’ corner. They are stuck. To bail now looks like they were duped by this unknown Socialist. They may not appear with him in public, but they will stay behind the curtains until all the noise subsides or he drops out. I think one of the most bizarre comments that I heard today came from The View. They were labeling him as a racist, a homophobe, a misogynist, an anti-Semite, but we have someone in the White House with unbridled power, and regardless of the character, we must elect him to save the nation. I am sorry, Sonny, but that should not and will not be okay for Maine.
Senator Murphy of Connecticut (is there a state with two senators worse than Connecticut?) embarrassed himself today when he said we need to overlook a man’s faults and put him in office to stop the Republican machine. This situation is just another black mark on today’s Maine. We are in horrible shape due to all of the poor decisions of the Left that dominate Maine’s political machine. Odds are that the Hot Dog Hut, which is a longtime fixture, will be thrilled when the Platner signs come down-they are not good for anyone’s appetite.
One final thought. The final nail in this man’s coffin is sending his poor, embarrassed wife out to try to save him from himself. The lies that came out of both their mouths today were too many to count, but give them credit for being on the same page. Maine is such a beautiful state, and its people are so loving and real, but it is politicians like Janet Mills and wannabees like Graham Planter who are staining her countryside.
