Something that we are forgetting more and more

Joseph was one of a delegation of Omahas who went to Washington in 1861. What he found there surprised him but also made him hopeful. “The whites,” he told his tribe members when he returned, “were not great and powerful because of any magic power, but because they all worked and sent their children to school.”

Are we losing that old Protestant work ethic in this country?  Somewhere in here I have posts talking about the financial equivalents of the public dole when you factor it all in and it adds up to more than the median American income (about $32K/year).  I’ve said before but we do have a sub-class in this country that are quite willing to layabout while others are forced to support them.

They all worked” – what a concept.  But with a Progressive outlook of “You didn’t build that” isn’t exactly enamored of a work ethic.
