Over at Gab.ai, I “gabbed” this (not tweeted – I’m no longer using Twitter):
It seems that lots of stories (the Oct surprises?) are coming out about Trump sexually harrassing women. So he is vilified by the Dems now while Bill Clinton is still revered as a rock store by Dems (well, at least as a minor one) for having done the same things?
Also this: Jonah Goldberg, “Character is Destiny.”
If you’re shocked that Donald Trump was capable of being this much of a pig, you let yourself be deluded. If you’re surprised that the Clinton campaign — or some allied party — found something like this, you willfully chose to live in a fantasyland. If you think there isn’t more of this stuff waiting, you’re doubling down on your delusions and fantasies.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not defending Trump. I neither use the language he did nor do I participate in such discussions – never have and never will (just my decision). But for all these Dems and Republicans going nuts over this with denouncements, most men can easily remember such language and locker room conversations from their high school and college days. Trust me, it goes on and even in worse descriptors than the recording with Trump and Billy Bush having that private discussion 11 years ago.
Sidenote: hey, is Billy Bush going to get canned from his current gig for being just as obnoxious? Or will he now be a rock star on the Left for helping to, perhaps, destroy the R campaign for Prez?
And I have heard such in corporate settings when furtive head turnings completed, the words came out. So when I heard of this “scandal”, I kept thinking “what a bunch of hypocrites”.
Now, not being a member of the Republican Party and being an Independent, I have no idea (or for that matter, much concern) what the GOP is going to do now. Reports of people “revoking” their endorsements has already started and will go on ad nauseum as they all pull “Jennifer Horns” (the race away from any and all “political mud” so as to appear to be able to wear the white of innocence and purity even as their own moralities may not be much better – this is politics after all).
Thought: Here is a PERFECT example of such behavior from NH’s soon to be ex-US Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH, or is that wishy-washy-NH):
I will not be voting for Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton and instead will be writing in Gov. Pence for president on Election Day”
And I say “ex” as even as she has crossed over the aisle to do “Democrat” stuff in order to be seen as “bipartisan”, NH Democrats aren’t going to vote for her. And she has so angered the conservative base, most of us will be voting for someone else (for me, Aaron Day) – and it will only take a few percentage loss of votes for Ayotte to lose in this tight race. See, Pretty Kelly – lie to us and watch what happens (remember Frank Guinta’s first run for re-election, Scott Brown, and Walt Havenstein?) or really, what doesn’t happen.
Kathy Shaidle has a good point on this though, running completely counter to what we see the GOP Smart People doing right now:
If “it’s just sex!!!” in 1995, then it’s “just sex” in 2005, and this year and every year forever.
THEY made that rule. Make your enemy play by his rules — remember your Alinsky.
But constitutionally, it seems that Republicans can’t or won’t fight back – they only run away like frightened weasels. As Shaidle notes, this OUGHT to be a time to double down against their enemies, the Democrats, and get on their cases HARD for acting just the same way – or worse (remember, the NH Dems renamed their annual dinner from Jefferson-Jackson to the Kennedy-Clinton dinner showing that they exalt:
a serial womanizers and a rapist
And they are going after Trump? See how easy that is? But no, the Establishment Republicans would rather go after Trump.
Oh wait – are they basically saying that Trump is bigger threat to them than the Democrats?
