And if you have been listening, I’ve been decrying the wholesale demolition of our education system for years, particularly our own country’s history and the reasons behind it. I’ve posted numerous videos of simple history questions asked in man-in-the-street interviews and pretty much, they are complete disasters, especially when young adults are the deer-in-headlights victims. At such a mass level, it can’t just be a random act here and there. One teacher’s lament (emphasis mine):
DISPATCHES FROM THE EDUCATION APOCALYPSE: “I started giving quizzes to my juniors and seniors. I gave them a ten-question American history test… just to see where they are. The vast majority of my students – I’m talking nine out of ten, in every single class, for seven consecutive years – they have no idea that slavery existed anywhere in the world before the United States. Moses, Pharaoh, they know none of it. They’re 100% convinced that slavery is a uniquely American invention… How do you give an adequate view of history and culture to kids when that’s what they think of their own country – that America invented slavery? That’s all they know.”
And that’s just the first step in how the US is THE evil in the world today.
And it is easy to listen to these radicals that seem to dominate the media, lambasting their country for things that really aren’t true. And it ends up with voters that have no idea of the real philosophy on which this country was founded. And when that happens, ANYthing in the future is possible with respect to going further away from our real roots and that everything in our history is seen only from the political correct lens of today in judging what has happened in the past.
But worst of all, the standard of the day in “truth” is the immediacy of the self-defined identity and emotion. Not logic, not reason, and certainly no absolutes.
“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6). The rigorous public education system I grew up in is no longer – that which is now taught is not the American way “he should go” as now it is a communitarian (at best) socialist (at worst). Even in the “hard” subjects (math, science) of even 15 years ago when I read my sons’ textbooks were flaccid and impotent with respect to content. Not only that, they’ve been politicized as well and I would imagine that those trends have only gotten worse, given what I have seen from current teachers at school board meetings.
How can one be proud of one’s country if someone believes that “America invented slavery“? And how easy can it be to believe all of the other things that the Left promulgates as American sins magnified beyond what a normalized perspective would warrant?
Long terms, it can only lead to a hollowing out of our nation under the rubric of “if you don’t believe in something, you’ll believe in anything”. And if you don’t believe in the philosophy of what made America free and great, well, you’ll believe in something much, much worse.
