Or why Executive Orders are such a bad idea (although this whole scenario is rather amusing; reformatted, emphasis mine):
Kansas Governor Sam Brownback, ignoring prospective critics arguing for the LGBT movement, rescinded an executive order issued in 2007 by former Governor Kathleen Sebelius that expanded laws specifically protecting LGBT state workers. Brownback’s executive order was simple enough; his office released a statement saying the order “reaffirms the commitment of the State of Kansas to employment practices which do not discriminate based on race, color, gender, religion, national origin, ancestry or age. It further establishes that state entities will implement employment management practices for veterans and disabled individuals that include outreach, hiring, support, mentoring, development, rewards and recognition for achievement.”
The order from Sebelius, on the other hand, required “agencies under the governor’s direct control to ensure they have programs to prevent harassment against gay men, lesbians, bisexuals and people who have had surgery for sex changes,” according to the New York Times.
And this is the absolute right thing to have done. Period. And those that depend on such E.O.s ought to be scared for any political gain they have seen from them for just as easily as they may come, they can go (and I hope the next President is a Republican and that their first Executive Order rescinds every one that Obama issued – we could call it the Dan Pfiefer E.O.*). This is not how the American system works – creating micro-versions of what we fought against back in the 1770s. And Brownback makes it clear:
The Kansas governor pointed out that any sentiments similar to the ones Sebelius favored should be implemented by the legislature, not through executive order. He said, “This Executive Order ensures that state employees enjoy the same civil rights as all Kansans without creating additional ‘protected classes’ as the previous order did.
And now those that first got the grain for their Ox then are now bitter about about the goring. Hey, you wanna play the political game by shaving the process, deal with it.
LGBT supporters railed against Brownback; Doug Bonney, legal director of the ACLU of Kansas, said to the Huffington Post, “When an executive repeals that kind of order, it sends a terrible, terrible sign that we don’t care about this — these people are not deserving of protections, we’re going to go backwards. That’s against the flow of history, frankly.”
Yeah, well, it ISN’T about them at all. And they know it. They just want, however, the ability to unilaterally have things done on a political whim (for lately, that’s what a lot of E.O.s have been about – the political outside our legislative process. And when you benefit at first, don’t whine when the depended upon ideology gets replaced.
Marty Rouse, The Human Rights Campaign’s field director, snapped, “For eight years, LGBT state employees have been guaranteed non-discrimination protections and in one foul, reckless, and shameful decision, Governor Brownback has taken the state backward. His deplorable behavior is a direct assault on fairness and equality in the state.”
Stop yer belly-achin’ and pass legislation! I’m rather satisfied with this action – I grow weary of the constant “this class”, “that group”, and yet some other bright line difference group. The Progressive Democrats have successfully injected identity sub-groups into our lives creating a tossed salad where we used to be a mixing bowl; nice to see at least one dismantling of the lines that divide us. We were originally supposed to be all equal before the Law. Instead, there are so many exceptions to that basic philosophy it is all but unrecognizable. Sure, I’ll admit that PERHAPS the intent was good in the beginning but as been so extended so far that it is calcifying society and pretty much put everyone so on teter hooks, WHY would anyone want to socialize with someone in another “class
The American version of the caste system has been created – thanks bunches, Leftists.
Moral of the story – no, it’s not about gays or gay marriage (although it is clear that this protected class NEVER thought a bright political bauble would ever be yanked from them). It’s about how change is done and E.O.s are not the way to make them. Have the political courage to pass a bill if it is all that important.
Or it’s not important at all.

White House senior adviser Dan Pfeiffer conceded that he fears a President Ted Cruz will overturn President Barack Obama’s executive amnesty, perhaps signaling that Cruz represents the greatest threat to the progressive left.
“Our first 100 days we spent a lot of time signing executive orders undoing what [President George W.] Bush did, and I would like not to be sitting on a beach somewhere reading about President [Ted] Cruz doing that to us, so it’s very important to us,” Pfeiffertold the Wall Street Journal on Friday.
