But it’s not supposed to work that way, eh folks? ANY increase in gun ownership is supposed to put even MORE red blood into our streets if you listen to the civilian disarmament folks like New Castle Promise and Mom Demand Action (er, they should demanding more wisdom – for themselves) as this news snippet shows:
FOX BUTTERFIELD, CALL YOUR OFFICE THE WASHINGTON POST: In Virginia, Gun Sales Are Up, But Crime Is Down. “Last year, 420,829 firearms were bought through licensed gun dealers in the state. That’s a 73 percent increase over 2006. Leading the list were pistols (175,717), followed by rifles (135,495). According to the Richmond Times Dispatch, central Virginians packed more heat than anyone else, followed closely by Northern Virginians. And yet, as more firearms are sold, the crime rate has continued to drop.”
Glenn Reynolds says: “It’s a mystery.”
Nope – I’ll go with Robert Heinlein (whose writings, in part, named us): “An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life”
This has happened in every place where lawful gun rights become less restrictive and go back more towards the plain language of the Second Amendment (or here in NH, Article 2-A) that acknowledge that the Right to self-defense with firearms is not ALLOWED by them but a Right that pre-existed their writings.
